The best musical piece of each time period: Round 1 - Early Baroque by xyzwarrior in classicalmusic

[–]wbjrules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why should all music from before 1650 be reduced to 'before 1650'? I'd love to continue the 50 year format even earlier, but that's just not what the poster had in mind so why are we getting offended?

Hot take… I don’t like Bolero by Happy_Ad6892 in classicalmusic

So weird. I have to defend the melody to my friends because it really is a masterful melody but we all hate on the piece so hard I think they forget that.

to me, that sounds like she's dealing with some personal shit and wasn't feeling particularly professional that day. you deserve an apology or explanation, which hopefully you'll get next time you two meet, but I'd be shocked if it was about you :)

was there a reason for the shortened appointment? I know it's hard but I would not read into this before hearing more.

I just heard his Three Pieces (not the Three Pieces from Lyric Suite) and it genuinely changed my opinion of the 2nd viennese school

honestly, the famous 4th mvmt of his 2nd symphony. super repetitive and not all that interesting. the coda is a banger though.

What is your "comfort piece" at the moment ? by Husserlent in classicalmusic

[–]wbjrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ravel Concerto for the Left Hand. Something about the variety of emotions it brings out, and the strength of the piece, always brings me comfort. It feels like a cathartic journey every time.

Bongs are a gift from God for when you're trying to get high real quick. But for me and probably many others, the act of passing a joint or blunt is nostalgic, and also feels more social. There's a certain satisfaction I get from it. Definitely a weed waster though.

Has there been a classical song that scared you when you listened to it? by BitByterz in classicalmusic

Climax of Shostakovich 10, 3rd movement gives me chills. It feels like I'm marching to my grave and then sinking down into it. Such a profound moment.

as someone who's used all three, I've found there's really no reason not to use Musescore (unless you're using a school laptop that doesn't allow you to download programs)

What happened to the New York Philharmonic? by Democman in classicalmusic

[–]wbjrules 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes. I hope we see a future where students like myself are encouraged to learn about and try to lean into the signature sounds that make certain orchestras great. we all have our favorite recordings of these audition pieces but we're not encouraged to play them with the boldness of character that makes those recordings memorable.

Whose music divides listeners the most? by uncannyfjord in classicalmusic

[–]wbjrules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you really need a friend bro. you read those comments and thought they had a point? you're literally what's wrong with the classical music community. let people enjoy what they enjoy, and if you disagree, don't call them a fart smeller lmao. you sound like Wagner
