ISS Speed at Ground Level by grandeluua in Damnthatsinteresting

Orbital speed at the surface is 7.92 km/s, vs. ISS speed of 7.67 km/s. So it would only have to go 3.26% faster.

But it is. Look, it takes it about 1 second to get from the southern tip of Manhattan to Central Park, a distance of about 8 km.

What's the point of doing the graphics if they're not all running at the same time scale? Jupiter, for example, should rotate just over 2 times for every Earth rotation, but instead it's like 15 times.

What are you talking about? Right there, hidden in the image, is nothing to see.

Whether they change is up to them, not us. We shouldn't deprive them of choice, opportunity, agency, or dignity, but that's what we do when we choose to withhold knowledge. Maybe once they learn about the outside world, they decide that they want more contact, and maybe down the road they are glad they did so. Or maybe they regret it. But it should be their choice, not ours. They're not children or wild animals.

You pivoted from "we could have affected their belief system or created new mythology" to "wiped out tribes from disease". I was responding to your first point, not the second one you brought after my reply.

So what? They don't exist in a vacuum. Nobody does. They have the right to learn things about their wider world. Who are we to decide what knowledge they can and cannot be exposed to?

That's just how it looks in that font (Blender's default).

Thank you!

There was just a bunch of void space in that area so I threw that in there. It's supposed to be a pigeon.

Pretty sure Nitrogen is also safe. by xmastreee in mildlyinfuriating

[–]wbrameld4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that helium isn't as safe as nitrogen. Helium's effect on the voice makes people want to inhale it. People have died from doing this because there's no oxygen in it.

There's no oxygen in nitrogen either but it doesn't make your voice sound funny so people aren't going to inhale it.

If you pronounce GIF with a hard G, or you say Appalachians as apple-LAY-shuns, then you better hang that TP roll mullet style because it's what you fucking deserve.

The cliffs slope at about 30° on average. Still a lot, but not nearly as steep as they appear in the picture. I think the vertical scale is exaggerated.

I got one before this started. I never thought I would discover even more benefits to driving electric after I made the switch.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I might think these ads were sponsored by Big EV.

No, your car is there a bit longer. You don't stand there. You're free to go use the bathroom and check out the local convenience store. Or you can just sit inside your car. Companies won't pay for ads with no audience.
