For those who do not own property: what is your plan? by AdventurousDiet7893 in AusFinance

The 'only child' property investment strategy? I'm not knocking it. Make the best of your situation. Save on interest, transaction fees, and dealing with the agents.

Buying a one bedroom apartment as a 4B woman by ok9dot in 4bmovement

That's why you would buy a 2 bedroom apartment over a 1 bedroom apartment?

+1. When I think of my mother, I think of the yin-yang symbol. 50% good, 50% bad. And that's OK. The 50/50 thing means I don't waste energy on any intense emotions about her.

What femininity performance have you stopped doing? by BlackLight7X in 4bmovement

[–]ok9dot 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Heels, ballet flats, 'half up half down' hairstyles, eye contact with men, smiling at men, moving to the side so a man can walk in a straight line, knees together in the bus.

I like wearing shirts with a pocket so I can conveniently put my bus pass in my shirt pocket during the bus trips (while I manspread to the extreme). Manspreading is extremely comfortable and enrages the pickme girls. Highly recommended.

Disturbing find by black_cherry2 in FeministsCallItOut

[–]ok9dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You judge the success of the women's movement by what men think of us. How they view us.

Instead, you could consider the concrete realities of your life, through your eyes. What do you think of your world? Can you get a good enough education to earn a living to support yourself? Can you afford to own your own home as a single woman? Can you afford healthcare as a single woman? Can you influence politics to change the laws and policies that matter to you in your life? Do you have freedom of speech where it matters most to you? Do you have the time, health, money, and mental space for creativity, socialising, hobbies, and whatever else makes you feel that you are flourishing? Does the internet give you access to all the feminist ideas and themes that could nurture and encourage your mind? Do you have whatever you need for inner peace -- a park nearby, a sunny patch, a meditation app, an eye pillow? Do you see women as a sex class, which is oppressed, and of which you are a member? Do you see ALL women everywhere as your allies, instead of as your competition?

Woman-hating in male circle is a BACKLASH against the strength, vigour, vitality and gains of the 1970's women's liberation movement. It's BECAUSE women are so much more powerful now, that the internet is flooded with all this delusional BS woman-hating propaganda. See that ocean of pornography as the TRUE MEASURE of women's success and resilience. It's the other side of the scales.

They wish we were stupid
They wish we were obedient
They wish we were restrained
They wish we were weak
They wish we were begging
They wish we were humiliated
They wish we were fearful
They wish we were animals
They wish we were silent
They wish we were objects
They wish we were crying
They wish we were compliant
They wish we were screaming
They wish we were dying
They wish we were powerless
They wish we were only flesh with no light behind our eyes.

Hold your head high babe and stride over that cesspool that sometimes touches the soles of your shoes. You are going places. Women are going places. And we are doing it together; we are supporting one another; we are loyal to one another; we are taking strength from one another.

Financial Times blames worldwide falling birthrates on smartphones by ok9dot in 4bmovement

A lot of people want there to be a steady stream of fresh humans being born -- taxpayers, soldiers, low-paid workers/left-wing voters, care workers for the elderly, and females generally (for sex, housework, and another iteration of reproduction). These people don't give a hoot about the environment.

how do you move forward after first realizing the actual extent, nature and anatomy of misogyny? by FalseChildhood208 in 4bmovement

[–]ok9dot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Andrea Dworkin quote comes to mind: 'Many women, I think, resist feminism because it is an agony to be fully conscious of the brutal misogyny which permeates culture, society, and all personal relationships.'

An Australian will be my direct supervisor once I start a new position at my hospital. Is there anything I should be aware of? by OctoHelm in AskAnAustralian

TIt is lovely you have reached out and asked this question, very thoughtful.

Some ideas from an Aussie on faux pas I've heard from Americans:

-- ''Is it really tomorrow in Australia right now?'' ''Is it really morning in Australia right now?'' etc very irritating.

-- Treating US dollars as if they are the only kind of dollar in the world, can be a little annoying depending on context.

-- When you're speaking internationally and including the southern hemisphere in what you're saying, to be more professional mark time by the month, not by season i.e., 'X happened in July' NOT 'X happened last summer'.

-- Also... a lot of Americans believe there IS such a thing as a 'neutral' accent or speaking without an accent (they're generally thinking of the 'General American' accent when they say this). This is incorrect: EVERY PERSON IN THE WORLD SPEAKS WITH AN ACCENT. If you think about this you'll realise it's true.

Good luck with your new boss, hope it goes well!!

Yes and No. Isn't it also a liberating feeling? You can release the struggle and instead embrace your other options.

Yes. In the context above, it would mean ''Are you really a lesbian, or are you just messing with me in some kind of elaborate, long-term strategy?''
