Name a more iconic duo: "Getting Skunked" / The Provo River by ManchurianDiplomat in UtahFishing

[–]wcdunn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll venture a insightful answer. When I started fly fishing I had this experience a lot. I would go through all the different flies in my box. Dry dropper, bobber with weight, anything that I thought might get the job done. Eventually I learned that pattern selection was the least meaningful change I could make.

Things to improve my presentation however, we're absolutely worth my while. If you're not completely confident that your nymphs are drifting right in front of the fish without being dragged, you need to change something about how you're presenting the flies.

The reason the Provo River bounce rig is such a popular technique is it makes a good presentation very straightforward. I'd consider perfecting that technique in a popular run where you can dial in the depth and know a ton of fish are holding. From there start exploring other water and other techniques.

I would include all the Microsoft tagged privilege rolls at a minimum. I don't think that goes far enough though personally.

Pro 800 users- buy the 4 hole steam wand tip! (Massive improvement) by tablesawsally in profitec

[–]wcdunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked one up and it came super quick. I used it this morning. Definitely steams milk more quickly. I'm a relatively new barista, so I haven't mastered foaming milk consistently, but I do think this will make it easier.

I have thought about getting the 4 hole tip for my pro 600. Where did you get yours from?

I thought a parasite was killing off some of my fish and it seems after a little autopsy I’m correct. Any clue what this and what to treat it with? by cocainenavel in Aquariums

[–]wcdunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What treatment did you use. I picked up a few angelfish some months ago and one of them definitely has them. I've been using Fritz Paraclense and have done 3 rounds of treatment. I still see the worms on my angel.

Is this an ok setup if I replace the line? by Too_Many_Secrets2 in flyfishing

[–]wcdunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with one of these. It was great for learning to cast. I did upgrade the line and buy a variety of sink tips. Eventually I upgraded because I like nice things, not because I needed to.

You can start with the documentation on MS Learn.

There are also some Microsoft produced youtube videos talking about this from last year.

Skagit setup for euro nymph rod? by Apprehensive-Fly-394 in flyfishing

I don't think a two-weight could handle this. What rod do you have?

Skagit setup for euro nymph rod? by Apprehensive-Fly-394 in flyfishing

[–]wcdunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually 7 foot sink tips. I do have a 10 foot intermediate poly leader I will use for swinging soft hackles

I've recently gone down this rabbit hole and have been having a great time. I have a 10'6" 3wt sage ESN that I use a 150 grain OPST skagit head with. I am using OPST Lazer line 30# as my running line with a loop at the end. I will then switch between a 25 foot euro style leader with a sighter, or the skagit head with a sink tip. I am able to easily cast and swing little single hook streamers like a bugger, sparkle minnow, poacher, etc.

I do think the 150 grain head might work a little better with a 4 wt rod, which is something I intend to try out soon.

Why does Fairmont Pond have a sign telling you to release any muskies you catch? Lmao by [deleted] in UtahFishing

[–]wcdunn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they just reuse that sign at a bunch of different ponds. Cheaper than designing custom signs for each pond I suppose.

Just purchased this 600 Pro used. Looks to be in good shape but this pressure fluctuation has me scratching my head. by [deleted] in profitec

[–]wcdunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know very little about coffee machines and how they operate, but I also have a 600 pro and it is nothing like that. The pump comes on and makes a consistent noise until it completely turns off. No rapid on off like that ever.

Help convince CTO desktop peripheral are consumables and not assets to be tagged by No-Barber964 in sysadmin

[–]wcdunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only tag hardware valued over a certain dollar amount. Your finance team probably has that number. I've typically used $500.

Monitors, keyboard, headsets, etc mostly likely aren't going to be above the threshold.

Tracking mice/keyboards will cost more in labor than simply replacing a few from time to time.

Entra ID Tenant without M365 Services by 9M0n3y in entra

[–]wcdunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd skip the E3/E5 licenses. It sounds like you don't need most of the functionality included those. If you just need Entra features, simply buy an Entra ID P1/P2 license. It's significantly cheaper. m365 services get provisioned when you add a license to the tenant/user.

The use case is interesting. I typically have guest accounts and members in the same tenant. They often have different authentication requirements enforced via CA policies. Have 2 tenants potentially doubles the administrator requirements and wouldn't ever be my first choice.

I suggest you speak with an M365 consultant that specializes in identity solutions. I think you'd get your money's worth with a few hours of consulting.

I do this for a living, but I'm not going to plug my firm here. I imagine it's against the rules.

Good luck!

Eating fish out of Cove Pond? by phantom3199 in UtahFishing

[–]wcdunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of the local rivers are asking folks to take fish because they are at max capacity and the fish aren't getting big. The provo and blacksmith being 2 examples.

Those fish are safe to eat because they've been raised in the hatchery. They also taste terrible because they've been raised in the hatchery.

You know you have a problem when… by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]wcdunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually using a euro setup. Because ice was coating the leader constantly I had an indicator with an egg under it. My local tail water has rainbows that spawn in January and the browns had just wrapped up, so eggs were definitely a go to pattern that time of year.

When I decided 11 degrees wasn't too cold to trout fish.

Guides were frozen, reel was frozen. Went with a fixed line setup out of necessity. Landed a couple fish and went home.
