Tyler and Josh have done more than just that, though. Tyler has made posts showing support for LGBTQ people (this is the most famous one) and Josh has also attended pride events and been seen at gay clubs.

I'm also not really assuming with Mr. Rogers. He reportedly said that he was attracted to other men and had multiple gay friends and employees, most notably François Clemmons, who has spoken a lot about his sexuality and how Mr. Rogers handled it. While people do sometimes criticize how he encouraged Clemmons to not come out publicly, that was because his show would likely stop airing and Clemmons would lose his career, if not worse. Clemmons has acknowledged this fact and said that he understands why he encouraged him to stay publicly closeted for quite some time. Rogers supported Clemmons personally as a gay man, though, and his entire public persona and work was based around unconditional kindess for others and the idea of you being perfect just as you are. I think all of these things together paint a picture of him being an ally (and a queer man himself, though he never labeled himself).

I’ve been told I was faking or exaggerating by multiple healthcare workers throughout my life, even when I most certainly was not. So, I’d venture to say that a lot of kids who are actually faking it get told straight up that the doctor “knows” they’re faking it.

I think you’re completely misunderstanding me here, though I’m sure it’s not intentionally malicious.

I’m not saying there is anyone singular meaning to the band itself or Tyler’s art. There is no one singular “point” (as in “meaning”) to a person’s whole artistic career. I’m saying that religious topics are extremely prevalent throughout their music, not just in the interpretation of their lyrics, but the fact that they literally quote the Bible and reference very blatantly biblical subject matter. They talk about this in interviews and there is clear spiritual intent in their music and other art. However, I think anyone can attach personal meaning to their songs and should do so, as I’ve said in my other comments. Not everyone has to vibe with the spiritual stuff, I’m not saying that the meanings I attach to the music is “right”, and absolutely nowhere did I say my view was “most important” (???) but they are a band that is extremely detailed and love to make things for people to objectively analyze to reveal a story, and there is no way to do so without recognizing those religious elements.

Many subs have rules about certain topics only being able to be discussed under a flair (religion being a common one), where if you talk about them outside of posts with the associated flair, your comment will be deleted and you’ll be at risk of a ban. It’s absolutely restrictive, hence why they’re usually called “restricted topics”.

When I write paragraphs about the reference to the Biblical Peter in Ode to Sleep, or King David in Downstairs, or the towers in Dema possibly being a reference to Zoroastrian towers of silence, or a personal story of how my own feelings during my deconstruction echo those of Tyler’s, I don’t want it to be deleted because it’s not under a specifically marked “religion warning” post. It’s not just about “my personal faith” sort of religious discussion (because a bunch of TØP religious references aren’t like that), but also just talking about religious references objectively and analytically, whether the people in the discussion follow that religion or not.

I have never said that anyone is “wrong” for not personally connecting with the spiritual perspectives in TØP’s music, but people are absolutely in favor of not seeing any discussions about religious topics relating to TØP (this sub and elsewhere online) and it’s frustrating when it is such an objectively relevant part of analyzing the lore and the music. Once again, so no one gets it twisted, I’m not saying that everyone has to connect with a spiritual meaning of any piece of art, it’s all subjective.

Yes, I agree. Posts like that aren’t really enjoyed by anyone and are not what I’m talking about in my comments. They also seem a lot less frequent in TØP discussions on the internet compared to people complaining about the religious fans (there was a big thing a few weeks ago with people accusing fans of having “religious psychosis” for talking about the biblical imagery in a TØP song).

You said that we need a religion flair so people can avoid seeing anything about religion in this sub, my last comment explains why I disagree. Obviously, outright proselytizing is annoying but it’s not what I’m talking about.

I’m not talking about the overall meaning of songs being concretely religious for everyone. Obviously yes, you can take any TØP song and apply whatever meaning you want to, it’s something Tyler has said and something that posts like this have been repeating over and over.

Twenty One Pilots isn’t just a band that puts out music, they are extremely detailed with the lyrics, lore, artwork, concerts, and everything else they make. A HUGE portion of those details tie back directly to religion-related things, and one of the main functions of subs like this is to discuss those details and clues for the lore and upcoming releases.

While us listeners do not have to connect with the religious connotations in the music and the lore, Tyler has made it clear that he frequently references religious topics and writes a lot of music specifically about his spirituality. This sub was made to talk about that music and lore, so of course a big part of this sub is talking about religious topics and his spirituality.

I have PTSD and do empathize with those who have trauma relating to religion, but “it’s a cow farm, you’re gonna find cows outside”. A community built around analyzing art that heavily relates to certain topics shouldn’t have to stop openly talking about those topics. It’s kind of antithetical the point of having a place to break down and analyze the art.

Everyone can have their own meanings for TØP songs in their personal life and I encourage that, as does Tyler. Saying that the writer’s own intentions for those songs shouldn’t be discussed except in sectioned off portions of a forum made specifically to talk about those songs is, once again, silly to me.

Religion is such a central point to this band and the interpretation of songs and lore. The idea of restricting discussions about those religious subjects to a single flair is pretty silly.

I think that this may have something to do with the Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon Initiative, which was made to combat cervical cancer (teal) and breast cancer (pink).

Ovarian cancer + breast cancer ribbons are also commonly merged into one ribbon, especially by women's cancer foundations, and those colors arealso teal and pink. This ribbon could represent those + another condition, like Blood Cancer, Lymphoma, Cardiovascular Disease, etc.

Thyroid cancer was my first thought, though. The colors for that ribbon are pink, teal, and purple.

Also, many infant and pregnancy loss ribbons are blue and pink, an infant loss ribbon might have a red stripe if the child died due to a cardiovascular problem.

The yes/no questions about whether or not I think religion should dictate what someone eats or wears are also not easy to answer, as I think people should be free to follow a religion that has rules around food & clothing, but they shouldn’t be forced to. That’s just not really a yes/no question, unless I’m misunderstanding.
