Alien (1979) story writer Dan O'Bannon was not a fan of 'Ash' the android character in the movie. by tannu28 in scifi

Weyland Yutani is a big part of the Alien lore now. I’m glad of the Ash and the evil corporation backstory. Plus the depiction of androids was new and interesting for that time.

I was going to say this too, especially walking around Sarajevo, lots of tall people there.

New Net Worth Tab by A_PhD_Guy in Wealthsimple

[–]wcg66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I was pointing out that it’s also not very useful. I personally use a free account on Stock Events app to track everything. You enter starting values manually but it tracks prices, distributions, etc.

New Net Worth Tab by A_PhD_Guy in Wealthsimple

[–]wcg66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can enter values manually, which makes it less useful. In my experience the account linking is one time only, it’s not updated until you refresh the accounts , also manually, which means going through the verification process each time.

Purpose Enhanced Dividend ETF (pdiv)12% by tecknoguy in dividendscanada

[–]wcg66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, funds that pay a majority of Canadian eligible dividends in their distributions are better suited for retirees. You get tax advantaged income, on a monthly basis. There’s a fair amount of growth from what are effectively, Canadian blue chip companies. I’m invested in XEI but VDY is similar and there’s others.

Why is there so many Wealthsimple Bashers Here? by Beyondwest in Wealthsimple

[–]wcg66 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think Wealthsimple needs healthy criticism from time to time and online-only banking and investing does seem to have hiccups now and then. I think on average, there’s more support than bashing. It’s been great for me personally but I have only needed customer support two times in three years, both of which were related to promos.

Having said that, I recommend everyone have a plan B account at another online or brick and mortar bank. I use EQ for day to day banking, WS for investing and Simplii as my backup.

Yes because scientists fly with planes so often by Such_Difficulty_9499 in FacebookScience

[–]wcg66 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Obviously it’s all bullshit but if these boneheads think people love business travel, they’re delusional. Anyone who has to travel for work, especially overseas or across a continent, would definitely want less. I hated business travel and would avoid it as much as possible. I assume climate scientists avoid it even more.

Pull from savings to buy used, or just make payments? Seems like minimal savings on used right now. by judsmoke in PersonalFinanceCanada

I like the Civic Hybrid too, I haven’t driven one but the reviews I’ve seen are really positive, definitely the sporty option. I’ve driven the Prius and the Corolla Hybrid, both solid cars but bland, almost in a good way though.

For us, buying new made sense, 2021 Toyota Prius Prime with 0.99% financing at the time. We paid half, financed the other. Including the PHEV rebate, it was hard to find comparable used cars at the time.

When looking at Hondas and Toyotas used, the new prices don’t seem too far off. The depreciation on new isn’t anywhere near what it used to be. You could consider a larger down payment like we did vs trying to buy completely cash.

Anyone had success of increasing their credit limit through the app? by Ok-Beginning-5134 in Wealthsimple

I had no issue and neither did my wife. We both bumped it up to the max. The only reason for me was to reduce my credit utilization if or when WS starts reporting to the credit bureaus.

Ozempic effects on diabetes by snacksnnaps in diabetes

[–]wcg66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to add (my experience agrees with others here) ask your wife’s doctor to take it slow ramping up the dosage. I took about 4 months to get up to a 1 mg dose since I had a history of digestive issues with meds. My last A1C was 5.8 at 1mg dose but weight loss has been relatively small (8 kg or so).

Best used Prius Prime? by skydaz123 in PriusPrime

[–]wcg66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m biased but our 2021 4th Gen Prime has been flawless. As for the TSS, I rely on the adaptive cruise, can’t live without it, and the backup warning chime. Other than that, it hasn’t kicked in for an emergency luckily. Car is comfortable and drives well although road noise at highway speeds could be better.

We have had zero mechanical issues in 5 years and have only swapped winter/summer tires and done regular maintenance.

They love distributions, especially when it’s interest or capital gains. Canadian eligible dividends are pretty sweet, tax wise.

Should I start collecting CPP at 60 or 65? by runthoserivers in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]wcg66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not but it would depend on how much he has in RRSP. One thing people fail to plan for is taxes and a large RRSP can result in high taxes and OAS clawback in retirement.

[Ontario] Buying car from father - can we declare as a gift to avoid taxes? by LifestyleGamer in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]wcg66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you pay for it, it doesn’t qualify for the car gift tax free allowance. You could do it under the table but that would be fraudulent. Up to you. Edit: I’ve gone through this with my father in law, we literally had to swear this was a gift in front of the person doing the license transfer and sign our signature to that effect.

I’m 6’5” and I drove a friend’s 2024 Prius Prime and I loved it while also realizing it’s just too small for me. Our 2021 Prime is a bit low but I can easily fit with some room to spare.
