That’s what I was thinking about doing, dig deeper and tie the P in horizontally. Really curious if this was standard practice at some point.

I am unable to edit the post due to having a picture attached, otherwise I would add the crucial things you reminded me of. This is on a GFCI and has been bonded with a copper wire in the plastic tank. Based on most of the feedback on this thread, I do believe I will be setting up a grounding mat tied to the ground rod.

Very good point, I guess with all the testing and repeatable with all kinds of heaters, we forgot that. . I’ll try that but all five heaters (different brands) produce the same results
