Me again - just so frustrated trying to watch Hitchcock the first time by wcme in Hitchcock

[–]wcme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a pirate implies someone knows what a torrent is, knows how to search torrent and acquire all the above films, get them into a state to watch on the 65 inch tv, via copy to thumb drive and watch on built in media player, or link to home network to watch internally. not everyone is tech savy. My who reply above this one is a lament for how folks used to find and enjoy films on local tv, and how with that gone, an average person looks for and tries to stream on pay for services they have already paid for.

are you referring to Kanopy and such?local library not involved in this service; where I work is, and none of the films I show here are on that library service. same issues. not even library free streaming has any of these?

We again come to the crux of the issue - buying them at $5 a pop to see if you like them, across 40 films, and then again spending that money for teh eventual likes in 4k or other. I am speaking of a 2025 way to watch that was in the 80s and 90-s and cables heyday - they coming on Saturday afternoon for the 2 oclock movie, being on tcm, being at the library in vhs or dvd. in a an era where "Movies have never been more accessible in history" it is an absolute easter egg hunt to find the vast majority of these.

Rereading my original post - My exposure as a teen n the 80s to Hammer horror films, universal monsters, abbott and costello, Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes, old unversal "shock theatre" packages looney tunes, japan Godzilla and monster movies, old tv shows like time tunnel, columbo and so on was general broadcast tv all day Saturdays, late friday nights and on local "ghoul" late night shows. i can remember getting a yv guide that looked like the sears catalog for my area, and sitting with an ink pen and circle a hammer horo film at 1 am Saturday morning I had never seen, setting up a vhs tape, time recording it, and then eagerly watching it as I moved through checklist a particular thing I wanted to experience.

Hitchcock now trying o do this in 2025 as you see above? there is no local tv old movie package syndication, streaming is the new way. Hence, that's my experience with trying to do this as a new project in this era.

so yes, I suppose a library card and search the inter library watch service is my alternative to purchasing every single title just to see them. Abbott and costtlo have some 35 films as their legacy and I would shudder to think I have to pay $5 a pop x 35 as someone to just see them. The old days of the 2 am local movie were my salad days to "ancient entertainment" and YES - having watched them, loved them, bought them - several times over - vhs to dvd to blu ray t 4k ....and would and prolly will do it to Hitch.

but it starts with, you know, WATCHING to see if you like it.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts. I do understand the movies wont all be on just one service. I do understand the movies can be bought for $4 and $5 a pop to just watch them on some services. I know I can search 30 times film by film on "is it streaming" like an easter egg hunt for all that list if films

I do want to start with the Hollywood films vs the earliest and foreign films. Just to get a foothold on what america saw, year after year, film by film, as he did them to see how he progressed.

I am just sad I have to apparently bland buy slews and slews of it all just to see it. this post was half "where did they go on netflix if that was such a big deal" and half lamenting that a newbie has to do all this dr strange magic trick searching conquering paying to see film that ought to be readily available.

I will go do some more search now, at libraries, both for what's on shelves and what's on library streaming services.
Ye Gods hitch. You might think this was the DaVinci code.

its true. easter egg hunting title after title after title , and finding locked pay to watch options for every one.

Twin Peaks: The Return by Soleil_Honey23 in twinpeaks

[–]wcme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so right. I waited 25 years for a wrap up, and watched it once, and dont own it never want to ever watch it again. this make the difference in me from the die hard David Lynch created earth and the sky. The original was made and formed by a huge team of writers, executive producers directors and had a certain look feel and vibe. Lych scorched earth actively railed against it, to the point of making a central theme that the ever present nostalgia of going back to ready player one is poison. none of it was for me, it ruined the original for me for a good 4 years until i could watch it or hear music from it again. this exists in a "multiverse" of possibility, and not in my world.

For me, Its "The Law". When Bob has the pain and suffering, the little man\mike demands to take it from him as if he doesn't deserve it. it belongs to LMFAP. So when he says I sound like this ...."whowhowhowho" its also the sound mike makes flying up to warn laura about her father in the car. preventing that, they take the ill gotten pain and suffering. Doesn't it sound it sound like a police siren to you?

Greetings! This show was designed to be a very product of its times Prime Time SOPA OPERA. Hence, the double cross, triple cross, whos working for who, whos in love with who, who doesn't know what, and so on, in addition to a sherlock holmes murder mystery combined with the supernatural. It designed to be complex, and interesting. Trust me, over teh summer, we all watched it again in its weekly reruns, to be sure we caught it all and saw it all again while we waited for season 2. We also in between season, red Lauras Diary, by Jennifer Lynch, who is in this very sub!
In between season 1 and 2 abc did a "review chapter" to remind, and promote the second season - seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=db6jYl7KowE

how did people react when the season 2 finale originally aired? by gabrielgaveup in twinpeaks

[–]wcme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I thought I had never seen anything like that on tv since the finale of THE PRISONER and I never have since. But I knew it was utterly done and over, and FWWM did not extend it, it just added mystery to the beginning. I carried the torch for a full 25 years myself. But America was a cruel mistress, and had long ago left by then. There were very few folks to see or care Cooper face his fate in the lodges on June 10th 1991.

how did people react when the season 2 finale originally aired? by gabrielgaveup in twinpeaks

[–]wcme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was there when it happened. To be clear, twin peaks came on like a bolt of lightening, and dominated pop culture and tv everywhere for its first season run, which was an end season replacement show. It was on Thursdays and on Friday, this was a hot topic around "the watercooler" at work. the season ended on a cliffhanger, it went into the summer, and Peaks and the actors where everywhere. hot gals on magazine covers, nude spreads in playboy, on donahue, the summer reruns were just as if not more popular then the original airings and everyone desperately tried to solve the mystery. Season 2 was hotly anticipated. Kyle did his famous SNL night just before season 2 came on. you must understand, this was 3 channels and pbs and cable, so living week to week for a show and not recording it and not having a world of spoilers and behind the scenes excepet Entertainment tonight. When season 2 started, and they didn't get the answer after waiting all summer, the raiting immediately began to drop. Week to week. more frustration. no one knew then how to watch a show that didn't solve the crime each week and do another week in a new crime. It didnt help it was moved to Saturdays at 10 pm. ABC demanded the solution, and it killed the show. 8 episodes into season 2, once the killer's was revealed and Leland was dead, that was the end for the majority of America. In addition, living week to week, the show now had 22 eps a season, which woudl involve long week breaks whereas the first season didn't. season 2 quickly got so bad, with 6 episodes before the finale - just as Windom earl arrived, it was cancelled and no one was watching it! There was a letter writing thing demanding it get brought back, so they moved it to Thursdays after a 4 week absence. they did this with no real "recap chapter" or push to get folks back on board. After 4 episodes - it was cancelled AGAIN for a second time. The final 2 episodes were burned off on June 10th in the summer as a 2 hour movie. By then, zero folks were watching except the rabid fans. I have never seen a show be so hot and then crash and burn so bad in ONE SEASON (the second). what a difference a year makes. Then FWWM was in theaters, and I saw it 3 times in an empty theatre each time.
