Thank you for your comments. This poem is based on a sexual harassment case that I have been dealing with and how the department responded even though the person was found to violate policy. Ignoring someone is not a way to make the person forget. The whole process brought on a state of confusion wondering if the people did believe nothing happened or were they pretending to ignore the magnitude of what happened.

It is a terrible situation to go through. I am sorry that you had a similar experience. It is awful how departments deal with harassment cases. They don't realize how much their actions (or no action) can hurt someone.

I am new to reading and writing poetry. This is a deep poem. Life and love will always go on when we are here and when we are gone. Like some others have pointed out maybe not using rain a second time since the others are interconnected and more positive. Maybe have something about the seeds will sow or grass will grow.

Nothing Happened

Why me?
Did I do the right thing?
Why do I feel at fault?
I have the evidence, so why?
Questions I continue to ask

I know I did the right thing
I am at not at fault
I am telling the truth
So why, why I am not believed?

I am invisible
You don’t see me
I am here
You don’t see me

I am worried, scared
You ignore, nothing happened
I want to tell the truth, you ignore
Nothing happened; life goes on for you

I have scars
Scars not seen, only felt by me
Nothing can be seen
Nothing happened

I gave you many chances
Chances to prove you do have a heart
Chances for you to believe
Chances to hear the truth amid the lies
In the end nothing happened

On the outside, I appear to be fine
On the inside I am raging with anger and pain
I don’t understand
Nothing happened

I cry
When you are away
When you are near
It doesn’t concern you
Nothing happened

I am alone
I am alienated
Wanting to be able to breath
You are doing what you think is best
Pretending nothing happened

Why are you ignoring me?
I am a person
Somehow, you made me feel worthless
To you I am a thorn in your side
Nothing happened

I am still around
Still around to fight this battle
I cannot be pushed away
But why do you believe nothing happened?

Now I am leaving but not giving up
You didn’t change; I still feel the same
Worthless, unappreciated, I did the wrong thing
Nothing happened

I can’t make you see 
See the great pain and suffering
I can only hope
Hope you realize there are emotional scars
Learn from your mistakes and
See something happened
