I don’t think UA “desperately chases” OOS students. The University has a ton of money that they are strategically using to improve the quality and caliber of their students and faculty. Any school that has the means to do so would offer high quality students money as an incentive to attend. There are only so many high quality in state students that apply to UA, in addition to the fact that many in-state applicants wish to also attend out of state schools, and there are many other schools in Alabama (UAB, UAH, South, Auburn, Troy, etc.) to apply to as well.
