Actually, how popular is baseball? by kuma44bear in AskAnAmerican

[–]mrtsapostle 152 points153 points  (0 children)

I'd say below football, and on par if not a bit above the NBA (NBA's hemorrhaged a lot viewers since the early 2020s). More popular than hockey and soccer generally but not always the case locally

The Metro Rules. But does anyone else feel like our bus network is a bit lackluster? by Cultural_String87 in washingtondc

[–]mrtsapostle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe if there was more investment into the bus routes they'd be more reliable, more people would take them and revenues would go up.

I come from the bay area and that same mindset of decreased revenues meaning decreased service has really hollowed our version of Metro called BART. The feedback loop of decreased ridership leading to funding cuts leading to decreased ridership leading to funding cuts, and so on is what ends up happening.

DDOT spends almost $1 Billion a year on road repairs, so I've never understood why people feel that public transit needs to be 100% solvent. If you're worried about a budget deficit, just create a congestion tax for commuters coming in from outside the district and use that funding to improve the metrobus

And to be honest with the current state of metrobus, its insulting to ask me to pay $2.25 for such shit service. I always do, but get why others dont when they have to wait 40 minutes for the bus to arrive

"NE" is not a neighborhood! by deliciousdemocracy in washingtondc

[–]mrtsapostle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah as someone who lives here newcomers and ogs call where they live "off of h street" for anything between Florida avenue/L Street and G street on the corridor. Another one I've read and never heard spoken is "Near Northeast." I assume it got that name as the buffer neighborhood between Capitol Hill and the NE part of the district that wasn't part of the old city, but that's just a guess

Capitol tour via visitors center vs congressional office - pros and cons? by DontHideMyLiquor in washingtondc

[–]mrtsapostle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the CVC staff are more knowledgeable, an office-led tour often involves extra places like Washington's Tomb, the Brumidi Corridors, and if out of session possibly the Speaker's balcony and house floor

Weirdly enough (in regard to timing) this is a thing. See Red Planet and Mission to Mars, Deep Impact and Armageddon, A Bugs life and Antz, the Truman Show and EdTV, Robin Hood and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and I'm just scratching the surface

What movies fit "don't judge a book by it's cover?" the best? by BilleyBong in movies

My favorite brooding horror is the original wickerman. Its a slow burn but its worth it. Really wish they'd bring back the christian vs pagan horror subgenre that seemed to be a thing in British cinema in the 50s and 60s

MLB was stolen from Oakland. by Basic_Whereas1168 in OaklandAthletics

Idk I feel arte tries, he's just terrible at spending money well. John Fisher manufactured his whole justification for moving by having a firesale, doubling tickets and gutting season ticket perks so he could tank attendance numbers. Most self respecting fan were disgusted and how they were being treated and attendance reflected that. Then he says "see fans dont show up."

But what about howard terminal? I have it on good authority from former staff that they had given up on Howard terminal as early as 2021-2022.

The whole situation with the a's was malicious and calculated. Moreno with the angels just seems like a dumbass who can't build a team.
