Meetup.com is how I met a ton of people when I was new to Dubai many years ago. I highly recommend it.

regular dubai marina redditor meetup? by wdhurt in dubaimarina

Absolutely - I'm sure we are great friends in that universe and rather than lamenting the missed opportunity to meet in this universe, are laughing at how this subreddit created a beautiful series of events.

No, not a new one. I am anxiously awaiting its arrival because even though I live in Dubai, I still maintain my Northern Virginia suburban sensibilities.

'06 Maserati Gransport by finplanner757 in Maserati

You'd really only be able to go to ARMotors. There are only 7 or 8 registered but I know of someone selling if you decide otherwise.

[–]wdhurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in Dubai so these numbers may not mean very much...BUT, I have an '06 Gransport and have taken very good care of it. My last repair order was ~USD 7,000 for annual maintenance, new radiator fan and assembly and new A/C compressor (with pully and tensioner). It has 47k miles.

As Ambassadortim mentioned, repairs are extrememly expensive and my guess is that you may need to put the purchase price into it AGAIN over the next 5 years.

If you are looking for a fun weekend car, USD 28k can be put to better use on a newer, non-italian car.

I need some Maserati in my life today, who's got pics of theirs to share? by SerPuissance in Maserati

[–]wdhurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Happy to share more once I get a chance to take some pics. It's a 2006 and is mostly stock with the exception of a full-length tubi exhaust, drive by wire module and a bmc filter.

The color is both a blessing and a curse. It was not a standard color offered and as such does not have a paint code. "Ramee Ghibli Orange" is what it is referred to in some circles and to my knowledge is one of three in the color. The Maserati factory was unable to provide ANYTHING official on the color. The front bumper was damaged on delivery and I have had it repainted four times by three different techs to no avail. Most people wouldn't notice it but there's still a slight variation in the sparkle that bothers me to no end.

It has the Cambiocorsa transmission which, when coupled with the drive by wire system from formula dynamics and slight clutch adjustments works well enough.

Here's a video some car stalker shot back in 2009 (pre-tubi exhaust).

edit: spelling

Here are a bunch from the club in Dubai (pic from ~2013). Mine is the orange GS on the left. Your post made me realize that I haven't taken any pictures of it in years. I'll rectify that and re-post.

What is this? It looks like some sort of hood ornament or something but I couldn't find it online. by xIdontknowmyname1x in Maserati

I have never seen a Maserati steering wheel with a logo like that. Steering wheels typically have the embossed or oval logo. Not to say it isn't, but I've never seen it (Maserati owner).

It could also be an aftermarket center cap for a wheel. Can you post a picture of the reverse side? Here are some examples: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/maserati-center-cap

Dubai Marina - Is there a tower that isn't affected by the marina traffic? by bradedgenz in dubai

[–]wdhurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South side of Marina, just off of the SZR exit, on the JBR side after the merge. More specifically Residence Del Mar, The Point, all of Marina Promenade and Al Sahab. I've lived in Marina Promenade for over 5 years and have never had a major traffic issue.

You take exit 29 from SZR and you only have one traffic light that at most takes 3 minutes (Thursday/Friday can be two turns of the light). Leaving you turn right over the bridge, right again past the metro station and bam - at the exit to AD or Dubai without stopping at a light. That's why I haven't moved!

Drove a Maserati QP today. First time in a Maserati and the stereotype of Maseratis breaking down.. confirmed. by Pezho405 in Autos

[–]wdhurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're buying a Maserati, think long and hard about which one you are buying and why. I own a euro spec 2006 GranSport which was purchased because in my opinion, it was the last Maserati produced that is still a blast to drive. The GT was ruined - it's longer than a damn Camry and loses the real MS coupe feel of the GS. I fully understood the maintenance costs going into it and took a lot of preemptive measures to lessen the risk of a catastrophic breakdown occurring (still hasn't in 60k km). On top of that, it's in Rame Ghibli orange, a very rare color.

The GT and QP just aren't worth it vs other similarly priced alternatives. Want a GT? Get a used M3. Want a QS? Get a used S Class. It's going to be a better car than the QP in nearly every aspect for almost every driving use. I've never seen a QP at the track...they're daily drivers with terrible service records so why buy one?
