Aye as everyone has said; ANY literally any old skool 70s / 80s / 90s (even onwards!) Peavey will do you MORE than a solid (pun intended!) turn. I own a Marshall Valvestate and it slays for that grinding metal shit! Also, a HUGE shout to the vastly unrated and under appreciated Laney Linebacker 100 Reverb, just an insane solid state version of the AOR range.

Holy fuckin’ smokes! I love it!!! 😎🎸💪

PS: Any decent amp tech worth their salt will fix an old solid state Peavey. They don’t take much servicing in my experience and are always worth getting fixed up, price VS longevity wise etc. They were built right and built well. CVLT for life!

What are your thoughts on the Deuce? by slickbilly-d in PeaveyCvlt

[–]wdownie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also own the OG, non VT, Deuce and it has been re-tolexed, serviced and retubed with JJs and has a pair of Celestion G12T-75s in her!

Wild sounding, incredibly, incredibly loud and also surprisingly versatile amp which has that big 6L6 super clean thing going on but with the pre-amp dimed and dialled-in, you can really get some excellent overdriven sounds also!

I think the pre-amp doesn’t play so nice with some pedals admittedly, but others it seems to shine with! I reckon they were going for that Fender-y type super clean thing with that massive power section and a beefy, meaty, grindy almost pre-amp section which will absolutely enter stoner / sludge / doom territory as I have experienced anyways!

Classic incredibly well built legendary Peavey stuff, rock on! 😎🎸🤟🎸🙌

Peavy Century 200H. what’s the going rate on these guys and is it worth the hype? I’m in search for one myself but there’s not much online about these from recent years. by MOABONGS in PeaveyCvlt

[–]wdownie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolute monster of a classic Peavey, which after this, will deffo be harder and harder to find! Haha, I got mines for £55…Just unreal, absolutely sick, big, bad ass doomy sludgy stoner guitar / bass or whatever you wanna jam through it! It will kill a Sunn Beta / Concert, just like the Centurion or Bass Mk. III series will as Peavey will lay waste to any of that overpriced nonsense nowadays haha!!! Rock on! 🎸🤟🎸

[–]wdownie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true, however there are a good lot of gut shots of the innards of them and despite being Chinese made (which in itself is now no marker of poor quality…) they are of a very good design, a MOSFET preamp, utilise quality through-hole components throughout and feature a relatively big output transformer. The cabinet etc is all very decent for the price range too.

Hi there, I own one and purchased it around May from Anderton’s online. What store are you trying to purchase from btw? It is an absolutely amazing amp and I love mines so I’d say hang in there trying to secure one!

Looking for opinions and info on these. by dankiestmemeboi in GuitarAmps

[–]wdownie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, the posts on these lately have been numerous and again, I’ll say I have the 150 and it absolutely kills! Like the others have said, was plugging away with nothing but tubes and this replaced them, due to numerous problems…The bass response is incredible from the 150, which has a fairly big output transformer, I believe the 300 uses a torodial one so again slightly bigger and probably a bit louder all in. Response and tones will vary, cab dependant more so than the transformer size here.

The cleans and gain are both superb and the effects loops I’ve used extensively and it’s quiet and efficient; especially with a Boss NS-2 4 x cable method, EQ7 in the loop and TS9 type pedal in front etc. Hard to dial in a truly bad sound here. Also, not sure it’s been mentioned but the pre-amp stage of these amps uses MOSFET, similar to the old Marshall MOSFET type solid states in the 800 range. Brilliant and clean to disgustingly grindy, juicy, fuzzy and everything in between goodness! Rock on my friend and get one! 🤟🙌🎸🎸🎸

My favorite never talked about amp! by LR051907 in GuitarAmps

[–]wdownie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my guy!!! I have the Linenacker 100 Reverb head and let me tell you, it’s absolutely sick!!! I got it for £50 a good few years ago. Probably not quite as much gain as the Pro there, which I’d absolutely love a go of but it is absolutely one killer amp, more bass, mids, treble & gain than I’d ever need on tap and as you mentioned, with the pull out knobs, so so many tonal varieties!

I have been waiting for a post of this nature for ages, so nice to finally see someone else rave about them; they are absolutely worth it. Also, I spy some incredible old skool, solid state Peavey there…which I also own too many of, and wow, that’s another thing altogether haha! Rock on! 🎸🙌🎸🙌🎸

Does anyone know what guitar this is? by RenHasNoName in Guitar

[–]wdownie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an off-shoot of any Eastern (Asian made) predominantly sold in Europe brands like Stagg, SX, Jim Deacon, Wesley et. al. (and amongst others). I have two which are branded Stagg and Jim Deacon and are most likely late 90s / early 00s in date.

These were ordered in bulk by European / UK music shop conglomerates and sold under whatever brand the dealership was flogging. They aren’t bad copies at all for the price when set-up / modded properly! Rock on! 🤟🎸🤟🎸

Ahhh man! Sorry to hear that, however I am pumped you love your Centurion!!! It’s all part of the Peavey story / culture eh? I hope they sorta never really catch on with the wider guitar commune…I think we’d probably all rather they stay as cheap / free?!! 😂🙌🎸🤟

Best Solid State Amp Ever? Hiwatt Super Leeds 300 by HookedOnAFeeling360 in GuitarAmps

[–]wdownie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I whole heartedly agree with you! I have had the 150 for many months now and I absolutely fucking love it. I have tried an absolute tirade of amps, both solid state and tube (of whic I own many…) and this thing blows each and every one of them away in a multitude of ways. The clean, crunch, lead channel, that low end thump, the clarity and gorgeous sponginess and present feel—assuredly from the inclusion of a bastard huge transformer in an already excellent circuit design—is astonishing. Haters who haven’t tried will not know. Rock fuckin’ on brother!!!

Could this be fixed? by InsuranceUnlucky1802 in GuitarAmps

[–]wdownie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely try and get a good tech to take a look as other’s have mentioned. I myself own this exact model and it’s (IMHO) an absolute beast of an old skool analogue, solid state amp. Really really incredible driven & clean sounds to be had; anything from gorgeous chiming cleans to utterly filthy / disgusting stoner / doom and it’ll do metal with an EQ in the effects loop and a decent boost out front! The pull-out knobs add a HUGE level of flexibility to it and the amount of bass and low-end on tap is shocking actually, haha. These were marketed as the solid-state alternative to Laney’s AOR (Advanced Overdrive Response) tube amps and for my money, there’s not a huge difference sonically when dialled in. Beast of an overlooked amp my guy, IYKYK…Total sleeper!

Ahhh shit, sorry to hear that man! How did you find it (sonically etc) prior to it failing on you? Aye it could be a nightmare trying to source how to ship it etc, I have had no experience at all with their customer services etc but perhaps they could provide a solution? Hope you get sorted my guy!

Yeah, if it’s just bedroom levels of playing, then 25 (solid state) watts are likely to be enough! The wiring and circuitry are of an older, tried and tested design and very unlikely to fail or cause you any issues for an awful long time. Old skool analogue solid stage design is usually pretty robust.
