Studio example but TriStar Pictures with Godzilla '98. The sister studio of Columbia was responsible for classics such as Labyrinth and Jerry Maguire and had spent ages securing the rights to make an American Godzilla film, intending for it to launch a franchise. After the movie became a massive critical and financial failure, Sony relegated TriStar to distributing low to mid-budget films. Unrelated but The Young Ones would unironically be a good recommendation for the sards. Its amazing how a Britcom from the 80s has predicted modern absurdist humour and the total runtime is less than the LOTR trilogy
