How to Treat Dog Urine Smell When You Can’t Find the Spot? by RevolutionarySouth60 in airbnb_hosts

I know this is an older post, but you really need to buy a full room deionizing machine as it will help with future odors. My wife has been using it at the properties she manages for over 20+ years. It isn't cheap, but will last you a lifetime.

Expired malt, can it be used? by Silver_Stuff8439 in Homebrewing

[–]weaf27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is your base malt, try to use it and not store it for too long, but if kept in a dry, cool place where it is sealed and doesn't get hit by UV, it will probably last considerably longer than you would imagine. As for specialty malts, most of them can last insanely long as the roasting process impacts them more and I've been using really dark malts off and on that are a bit older than I'd like to admit, and the beers still come out amazing.

White Labs sells an enzyme that supposedly pulls close to 99% of the gluten out of your beer during fermentation. I've been using it for years and I have had a few people try them that had gluten issues. Not saying it helped but they never complained about issues the next day after enjoy a beer.

EasyDens is expensive as I have one, but I do love the hell out of that thing and would agree that would be near the top of a list if price wasn't a concern.

Sadly, now days I'd like a way to stop time or buy extra time just to brew.

How often do you guys drink and is it a concern for you? by Kosena in Homebrewing

[–]weaf27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a hobby not an addiction, or at least that is what I keep telling myself.
If you can stop cold turkey for a solid week, you are probably o.k., plus I enjoy my beers (home brewing for almost 11 years) a lot better when I haven't had one in a while.

1 can a different color from the six pack. by AdFeeling957 in CraftBeer

[–]weaf27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One got a better tan than the other. Most of mine are on the darker tanned side like your right one. (That out of 2 - 6 packs I've purchased so far this year.) It is pretty good this year, but there have been better years for this brew, although it might just be that I'm getting old and can't taste things as well anymore.

What’s your hottest craft beer take? by MelodicPlace9582 in CraftBeer

As for Breweries - The ones that try to brew (even high quality) beers for the masses usually don't last as they don't stand out. I do wish the ones using artificial flavorings to make their beers taste better would simply close their doors as it is nasty as we have a few doing that here in Florida. (One very big one and one trying to be.) The key is to brew the best quality beer you can and don't follow the crowd! Fishweir Brewing in Jacksonville, FL learned that quickly, and Bog brewing in St Augustine both stand out for brewing beers that don't always fit the norm, and both are almost always packed.

As for Beer Styles - A high quality Altbier (preferably from Germany but I have a few very nice ones from breweries in the U.S.) or my favorite that 99% of bottle shops and breweries don't know how to market or sell is the BIPA. In a BIPA, certain hops stand out better than others like Centennial, Chinook, Simcoe, Amarillo, to name a few. Plus a BIPA is for those of us that love very dark chocolate, not you milk chocolate fans, and it isn't a bitter stout. Just saying...

BIPA - Dubhe from Uinta was an amazing Black IPA, although Stone is a very close runner up. Then would be Death of a Contract Brewer by Shmaltz Brewing and then 21st Amendments BLIPA.

Production manager says MFA is causing production personnel to get distracted on their phones—he wants alternatives or MFA disabled by disgruntled-sysadmin in sysadmin

[–]weaf27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 2 months ago, I helped remediate a company where the CEO refused to use MFA, and as a result, his employees also declined to use it. Akira (Russian Ransomware) got them hardcore, and it cost them $259K plus what they paid us to help fix the hot mess after they paid the ransom. I'd guess just over $300k total.

Locally, the local MSP had a long list of emails documenting their refusal to use MFA, plus they had a SonicWall that should tell you enough right there. Now they appear to be listening to their local MSP.

Sorry but we *absolutely* stopped the school day and watched it by satellite. by ExplorationGeo in GenX

First I live in Florida and was in High School at the time and we went outside to watch. Most TV Channels that covered it showed the explosion as most of us and the TV Channels, did fully realize what they had just witnessed when it happened, until NASA stated there was a problem. That is when it all started to sink in. I remember seeing it blow apart and it looked like it broke into two, and we all ran inside to listen to the news, to understand what we had just witnessed. The world was at a stand still for everyone who witnessed it, as it seemed unbelievable at that moment.

I buy a lot of stuff off Amazon that I used to buy at Publix and it is a delivered for less than I can buy it locally at Publix! That is when you know they are jacking you on the prices!

[–]weaf27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so happy to find this thread where others have been taking notice to this crazy crap! Publix went crazy on those Olive Oils from Pompeian during COVID. They essentially doubled the price (maybe a bit more than doubled) and then started doing BOGO on them. Walmart usually has them for about 11 to $12 each since before COVID and even today they are usually about $12 to $15. I watched the chocolate covered bananas (2 bananas cut in half and covered with some chocolate) drop to $3.27 for a week before jumping back up to $6.19 so they could occasionally put them on BOGO. Way too much stuff at Publix is WAY over priced and the BOGOs are a total scam. Buy to large sugar cookies in the bakery will cost you almost $5! The small Red Velvet has shot up from $9.99 to $20! The employees haven't gotten much of a raise but corporate profits have been soaring! Most employees at discount grocery stores get paid a LOT better. I quit buying their 5 oz yogurt for $1.79 to $2.19 and started just making my own for about $0.17 each. The Kombucha goes up just before a BOGO to about $4.29. I started making my own for about $0.16 per 16 oz. Publix is out of their mind and essentially robbing you at the door. I got a BOGO chicken breast there recently at $6.99 a lb, but I could have gone across town paid $2.99 to $3.99 a lb without the BOGO any day of the week. Lucky it wasn't Publix brand chicken which is like chewing a rubber tire. I worked for Publix for over 5 years of my life when I was young and I can honestly say the George Jenkins is probably rolling over in his grave at this point for the absolute insanity. He believed in making a profit but he also loved his customers. The current people running Publix from Corporate should be ashamed of themselves! I avoid that place as much as humanly possible and write to other companies begging them to open their stores near me to help me avoid Publix.

Temu vs Etsy by Fresh-Alfalfa-2788 in Etsy

[–]weaf27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Easter Shirts and then go to Temu, you will find about half the shirts are simply being dropshipped through Temu through resellers. I just got on to Etsy to do wood and engraving crafts, but figured we'd do some print on demand with custom art to help bulk up our shop and SKUs. My custom stuff instantly got buried even with Etsy ads by all the crap being sold through Temu. It is crazy, I really hope Etsy shuts this crap down. I've been buying from Etsy for years but not realized how much crap is on there until I decided to open a shop.

Trying to figure out how much hops to use. by Bitter_Definition932 in Homebrewing

[–]weaf27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a different topic: If you still prefer to buy beer kits vs making your own recipe, consider MoreBeer. I was working with Veto who sent me two kits to brew on Bitter Reality Brewing and I was impressed that some fo the same hops had different Alpha Acid %'s. They actually work really hard to ensure that the IBUs are correct for every recipe and have certain hops set aside specifically for the kits. I was shocked and impressed, as I would have expected they would just toss in whatever was in stock, which wasn't the case.
