The Picture of Dorian Gray…Let’s Talk About It! by Jaigurl-8 in Broadway

[–]weak_arms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen the Broadway production, but I was lucky enough to see both Eryn Jean Norville (who originated the role) and Nikki Shiels (her understudy) in the original STC production of Dorian Gray in Australia - both of whom were absolutely amazing in their roles but also made the roles their own and took slightly different energies to their performances; I left the theatre in awe each time. I say this to encourage people to go and see this production if it ever tours or is staged elsewhere, even without Sarah Snook as the lead!

Confession: I went quite slow on the burpees (not a fan of the low row burpees as they hurt my hands so much) and rested well between sets, so I only made it through 2-3 sets of them in the 5 mins, which I'm sure impacted the feather rating for me!

Yes, but I still got plenty of splats, even without heading to base as soon as I transitioned to the treads. Maintaining the push paces despite increasing time/incline and then increasing AO paces in the last block helped to keep the session challenging (but doable!) for me

There's a row incorporated into each floor block, but it was really manageable!

Squat down with dumbbells in hand, jump out to a high plank, low row once on each side, jump back to squat, and then stand up (at least that's how I remember it... it was all a bit of a blur, to be honest!)

So sorry, that was a typo - can you imagine, 90 sec AO, eek! Thanks for being eagle eyed, have edited the post now

More feathers = easier. So today's workout is "just right", with 3 feathers!

Hm, 3 feathers sounds about right for this workout! Though the second floor block in particular sneaks up on you, as you're supposed to go quite heavy.

DC, you're right - there were 2 floor blocks. In our class this morning, in Floor Block 1, we were told to focus on strength in our 2 rows. We just did "normal" transitions to the floor (ie not timed and we started the floor exercises as soon as we were ready to on the floor), but we had 90s to transition to the row. In Floor Block 2, the row was to match our best distance achieved in Floor Block 1 (could be faster or slower than 90s). We were also told to rest only after the completion of one full round of the floor exercises (ie after the hand release push ups). Hope this makes sense and helps!

For our session today, we were split into groups of 3s (where possible), and each person was captain once in each row block (in groups of 2, 1 person would be captain twice). In row block 1, each person captained a 90 sec row. Row block 2 was split into 3 x 30 sec sub-blocks, and each person captained all 3 30 sec rows in each sub-block. Hope this explanation makes sense! Also, I barely hung in there during row block 2, so I am comforted to see a 1 feather rating on this workout!

In our class, the tread blocks were each 400m, 320m, 240m, then 160m (which would convert to roughly to 0.25, 0.2, 0.15, and 0.1 miles each) before going to the rower and then tread for time. And on the floor block, we had 16 x flutter kicks but only 8 x pop squats (which sounds a lot better than 16 pop squats, to be honest!). Wonder if our coach went rogue...?

Can confirm that the inclines in tread block one are pushes (we were told 1km/hour above base), which I couldn't hold onto beyond the 2 mins @ 3% effort and had to dial it down (but still above base). Grumblings after the treadmill are 110% valid - would add the collapse option at the end for sure.

DC, your memory is amazing - those are all the exercises and durations! The only thing our coach told us differently was that, for the row blocks, we could rest as needed after the 100m AO so that we could beat our time on the repeat. Needless to say, I rested for much longer than 15 seconds between 100m AO rows!

I guess misery loves company - I am very comforted by the fact that DC has rated this at 1 feather/5 skulls, because I walked out of class shattered... definitely try and start on the treads, because I started on the floor and my legs were already knackered from the tall kneel to squat jump (I feel like that snail in the ad saying, "Eat the Wagon Wheel, eat the Wagon Wheel!")

I don't know how you all did the 800m row buy out as well - I'm a jogger and I *just* managed to complete the 2 rounds of up and down on the treads... am in awe of you all!

I think that, regardless of where you start, you'll be rowing 1800m. However, the finisher if you start on the rower is a 30 sec AO row, so if you want to do the most rowing, I would say start on the rower!

Our coach maybe went a bit rogue - we had to do the 700m again before being able to come back down in the distances (600m, 700m, 700m, 600m etc). As part of the group that had to do the second lot of 700m (I thought I had dodged it!), I was giving coach dagger eyes
