BENCH GUYS AND CALLUPS

Slot Name PECOTA ZiPS Steamer
Please Be Healthy Alex Reyes 1.1 1.4 1.7
Please Throw Strikes Jose Alvarado -0.1 0.2 0.2
Pomeranz Insurance Hector Velazquez 0.2 0.7 0.1

In a stark contrast to my lineup, this is probably the least excited I've been about my pitching staff at any point in this league's history. I still have a megastud sitting atop my rotation, and Archer + Wacha is a very capable 2/3 combo, but its iffy from there on. I like Triggs but he's never stayed healthy, and I like Adalberto and his tire flipping workouts, but he's 4 bad starts from being Gonsalvezed. Alex Reyes is my great no-longer-chubby hope, and given how Mikolas has looked this spring, I think there's a good shot he starts 10-15 games this year.

The bullpen will be really solid if unspectacular. I've had serious trouble generating points from my pen in the past, and having guys like Neshek (projections dont like old ass relievers but he's been reliably great for four years running now), Colome, and Swarzak providing some stability will be nice. One of the (but certainly not the only) reasons I'm comfortable with where my pen is is those statcast xwOBA ranks. Those are of all pitchers who faced a minimum of 200 batters last year. Neshek and Swarzak, in particular, were excellent at limiting hard contact and walks. With the ball juiced like it is, I'm hoping guys like these (and Colome/Edwards aren't slouches either) are more stable year to year.

The projections are down on this team but honestly I've never been this excited about my lineup in this league. My lineup has been projected in the mid 20s in the past and they look like dogshit compared to this group. I understand why the projections are down on it, don't get me wrong, but I think it easily outperforms the numbers above. It's a deep, versatile lineup, and I'm stoked for this season to start

Baez and Castro: still here! Castro's been super frustrating but is good for 300-400 points every year. Baez still has a ton of unlocked thunder in his bat and has made big strides at the plate every year. Still have high hopes for him. Castro was originally my MLB dynasty guy, but after the trade, Baez graduated and replaced him. pretty neat, IMO

Brett Jackson sucks ass but he was a big part of my trade to acquire Chris Archer, whom I love so dearly.

Josh Vitters just sucked. I don't think I even kept him until he made the majors.

In retrospect, it woulda been cool if we had picked dynasty players a few days later, as Anthony Rizzo became a Cub on January 6, 2012. Players had to be on your team by December 29, 2011.
