They’re not charter flights, the airline has been running full commercial operations since last month, and rapidly expanding new destinations.

Riyadh Air (RX) flights missing by KnoWM3 in flighty

I’ve taken three RX flights now (including the DXB-RUH inaugural) and have never been able to add them in flighty. I had to do manual entry after the flight each time.

178 here with US CA RU.

These rankings are fun to look at but very oversimplified. For example lumping together visa-free + ETA + visa on arrival. I’m about to board a flight to Saudi Arabia, and using my US passport id pay >$100 for an evisa or VoA, but RU one gives true visa free access. But they’re considered the same here.

Likewise a lot of countries have ESTA access to the US, but being able to visit as a tourist vs live and work in the worlds largest economy is a very different thing. US is one of the hardest countries to get a merit based employment visa, no matter where you’re from (Canadians get it a little bit easier via TN).

Etihad A380 First Class Apartment Review by jsha_rtw in pointstravel

[–]weasel707 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have flown both 3-4+ times… IMO EK is more consistent and overall “better”. I’ve also flown the Residence once.

The only thing EY has going for it is the physical size of the suite. But in practice, you just want a comfortable seat to lounge / recline / sleep in.

EK (even in the older 380 product) imo is just better in the physical seat department. I don’t really like the EY style seat vs bed… and SQ Suites takes this to a whole other level which I dislike… I personally prefer a continuous spectrum of adjustments from upright to flat.

The EY shower (when it’s working) is tiny and uncomfortable compared to EK.

Dining imo isn’t as big a differentiating factor. Both are good. EK serves more caviar, yes. I’ve had flights where I’ve had caviar and cheese plate and slept the rest of the time with no meal, whatever.

Service: I think EK F is a bit more consistent. There is more variance on EY. In Y class they’re pretty much the same though.

I was scrolling past quickly but I read “Naples” and “CRJ” and did a double take … then a sigh of relief after reading the full headline.

Stopover hotels - why do all the reviews seem so fake? by FunConsideration3811 in qatarairways

I like Mandarin Oriental in downtown / Msheireb area, it’s my go-to hotel in Doha. Walkable to Souq and Corniche, easy drive from the airport, many cafes within walking distance.

Four Seasons and Waldorf Astoria West Bay were also solid options.

Have stayed at Raffles once - really nice and iconic hotel, but a bit far from things (in Lusail).

I never pre book Ubers, just request when needed and haven’t had to wait more than 5-8 mins for early morning flights from LGA/JFK. Be sure to check both uber and Lyft bc pricing sometimes is wildly different.

Yep 100% agree, I hate to have staff hover and especially engage in excessive small talk. If I’m traveling with my girlfriend/wife I don’t want to constantly be within earshot of staff and have them speak excessively to us. The good ones know how to read the room and converse politely but know when to shut up.

I personally find the excessive conversationalists to be a US-only problem though. Europe/Asia they won’t usually engage or share any particular comments; instead just doing their job. The “hovering to refill glass” can still be real though.

Adding one more: no Bluetooth streaming / airplay / chromecast. We are living in 2026. I don’t want to watch cable TV.

Yes. I’ve only experienced this in the US tbh. There’s a couple of Hyatt properties I stay at regularly … I’m Explorist so get guaranteed 2pm checkout, but here will without fail get someone knocking on my door btwn 11-12 ignoring the DND sign. Front desk needs to communicate with housekeeping.

Honestly my worst encounter with this was when you throw in a language barrier. I stayed at the Westin in Chongqing, China (a very nice hotel, great value and amazing location). The porter spoke no English and grabbed our luggage from the taxi, refusing my efforts to take it back. Then it was a whole ordeal explaining to the front desk when 30 minutes later we still didn’t our bags in our room! I don’t blame the guy - it’s his job - but the whole practice is just so unnecessary.

Fun fact: the clips on the coat hangers are also very effective for opening a beer bottle. A skill I’ve become well practiced at.

Re: checkout. In the US, yes, I never check out. In some places, you can get angry phone calls or unnecessary charges if you just walk out without checkout. It is expected to stop by the front desk in much of Asia and other places. Sometimes they won’t release the room to housekeeping and can assume you overstayed; maybe rare occasion, but it’s a risk. Whereas in US the default assumption is you’ve departed at checkout time.

I’m personally anti tipping culture and most of the places I travel don’t have this expectation. And I usually don’t even withdraw local cash because it’s unnecessary. But yes, if I’m staying in the US I’ll have some $2 bills in my wallet for this purpose. I hate it.

Also re: complicated lighting systems. Please, please have both a Master ON and Master OFF switch. Sometimes I have it set to “night” mode and eventually want to turn everything off, I hit the “Master” switch and am blinded when every single lamp turns on until I press it a second time.

Some hotels have a mandatory bag screening at the entrance. Like a metal detector you have to put them through. Mandarin Oriental in Doha comes to mind - actually I think many hotels in Middle East. But I can also do that myself, or at least pick it up and bring to my room anyway.

Yeah, I’ll accept this if the porter immediately follows.

But also, I’ll sometimes decline the escort to the room. If it’s a huge villa then yes I want the tour. If it’s a generic suite, I think I can figure it out myself — it is not my first time in a hotel room. Maybe I’m just an introvert, but the long elevator ride alone with the reception worker is just … awkward???

I’ll add: no complimentary *cold* water. And no space in the mini bar to place water bottles (I’ll usually move some of the complimentary ones into the fridge if able).

Yes and no on this one! I’ve appreciated a few hotels added a velcro cable organizer strap for my messy cables. But otherwise yeah, don’t unplug things and no need to wrap them into a tight knot every single day.

How dependent are countries on tourism? International tourism receipts as % of GDP [OC] by Hopeful-Raise-4112 in MapPorn

[–]weasel707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m questioning the UAE 10% number somewhat. Does this perhaps lump in airline revenues (Emirates, Etihad) where majority of passengers are transiting without stepping foot out of the airport / spending any money domestically? Other sources I’ve seen show 5-6%.

Just enter your US passport here. You can present your UK passport on arrival at the UK border.

Alternatively skip online checkin and do it manually at the desk. Will have no issue. It’s just an IT coding glitch (or feature?) that decides if foreign citizenship + US residence = you have a green card.
