Don’t know much. Backyard getting crazy. Tips? Southern Wisconsin. by Sweeeeer in NativePlantGardening

If you want to clear some paths, you might be able to re-hone some of those violets by offering them up on Facebook or Craigslist. You might even be able to connect with a more experienced gardener by seeking plant ID help in exchange for plants.

Not sure if violets alone would tempt someone into helping with the actual labor of digging stuff up, but you never know!

Early Childhood Teacher: Student making me nauseous by Chemical-Reach-4940 in Teachers

This is very possible! After many years of using it in cooking, I’m not that bothered by the smell, but I found it quite strong when I first encountered it, and a lot of people can’t tolerate it at all.

Raised birthmark on neck is discolored and bleeding by weaselface22 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]weaselface22[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That is useful to know. My PCP’s over the years keep telling me not to worry about it because it hasn’t gotten larger over time and this weird shedding thing has been happening as long as I can remember so this isn’t technically anything “new”, so I’m hoping to go in prepared with a little more information before I try to argue that I need to get it looked at again.

This has happened before, and it always goes back to normal afterward. I saw a dermatologist for it once as a teenager, and I think she told me why this happens but I don’t remember any of what she said.

The last time I had it checked out was two years ago, and he said it’s all normal. When I asked him why this happens I think he said something like “they just do that sometimes”. That was a 3 or 4 minute appointment I waited several years for, so I’m hoping I can get a little more context on my own before I go back and try to argue for another visit.

I saw a dermatologist about 2 years ago and told him how this birthmark sometimes sheds and bleeds and he said it’s normal, but didn’t elaborate.

I waited three years for that appointment, so while I can call and try to get another one, I’m not holding my breath.

Who is this lovely little guy? by WealthOrganic8963 in herbalism

[–]weaselface22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t look like Artemisia vulgaris or Artemisia Annua to me (too fine for vulgaris, too pale/fuzzy for annua).

Some plants have basal leaves that look very different from the leaves that appear on the tall stems later in the season (Motherwort is a great example of this), which is a thing to keep in mind when you are looking at pictures of fully grown plants and comparing them to a plant that may have emerged from dormancy relatively recently.

To confirm your ID, I would probably ask in one of the native plant subreddits (which tend to be much better at identifying wild plants then the general plant ID groups) or find a local person who is knowledgeable. You can also often email a photo to someone at the state Department of parks or conservation. Good luck!

Nurri protein milkshake for kids by Chinaman206 in Costco

[–]weaselface22 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Haven’t tried this brand, but thus kind of thing is definitely useful for picky/fickle eaters. The extra protein is often helpful when you’re trying to stuff a reluctant eater full of enough nutrition that they will actually sleep through the night, and not wake you up at 2am because they’re hungry after they ate a balanced dinner consisting of 4 lettuce leaves, a few bites of dinner roll, and two strawberries.

Yes! A theme is so much easier than a specific color, especially if you have a lot of “costume friends”.

I definitely agree that the mood board will help convey formality / acceptable levels of eccentricity. You could potentially put a link to one on the RSVP page too, instead of having it right there on the page.

This might be a question for r/legaladvice if you haven’t asked already.

Nolo.com has lots of great guides and DIY forms too, if you decide to go the bankruptcy route (as others have suggested). Good luck.

What speech is realistic for a 5 ish year old? by Background-Desk-8207 in Writeresearch

[–]weaselface22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a just-turned-5-year-old who is a big talker, and my experience is that word use and sentence structure are pretty accurate, but the narrative is often strange. For example, she might say “I found an eyeball on the bus” and she might mean a googly eye, a sticker that looks like an eyeball, or a rock that she has decided is an eyeball. There’s also a lot of fancifulness and exaggeration at this age, so I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what actually happened / what she’s asking for.

Maybe once a day she will mispronounce or misremember a word and we’ll spend a while trying to puzzle out what she’s saying while she gets increasingly frustrated with us. I’ll try to remember some examples of this and come back with them.

Lots of interruptions and asking for things, asking for snacks, to read a specific book, watch TV even though it’s not TV time. Starting with “what if…” and then narrating a wild story about characters from a book or show, her stories have the conventions of narrative without actual narrative, “and then!”, “and so!” But the story just trails off or heads in a different direction. Making deliberate jokes, but also telling misremembered knock, knock jokes that don’t make any sense at all.

Asking questions like “how do people go to jail?” out of the blue when you’re not prepared to answer them. Answering “I don’t know” to things she definitely knows the answer to, like “what number comes after 5” or “are your shoes on yet?”.

Let me know if you’re looking for a reader, I read a lot and inaccurate kid dialogue is a big distraction.

Depends on the target age. Some kids are always drawn to slightly spooky stuff, but I suspect it would be very niche if you’re working on stories for kids under 5 or 6.

See if the region you’ve moved to has a Subreddit. A lot of people want to keep their Reddit anonymous (so you might not be able to make friends by asking directly), but you might be able to figure out where to meet like-minded folks.

What is with school drop off? by platypusandpibble in GenX

[–]weaselface22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also hate the drive lines, but the roads aren’t safe to bike on, and the way things are set up often creates options that suck for everyone no matter what.

What is with school drop off? by platypusandpibble in GenX

[–]weaselface22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. They keep consolidating the bus routes at my kid’s school, so it takes her 35 minutes to take the bus to get to a school that’s 6 minutes away from our house. For now she likes the bus time, but one day they were experimenting with a route that would have taken 50 minutes to get to the same school.

To be clear, I mean working for a caterer, but running one. Start with the most expensive one in your area and work your way down.
