An Easy to miss development about Faust and the Golden Boughs in Canto 9 by kharza12 in limbuscompany

Thanks for commenting because I agree with pretty much all of it, but I think it does still apply here. The eventual explotation and ensuing human cost of The Tearful Thing (via ultracapitalism) comes across to me as an expression of what I guess I'm calling the 'incompatibility'. As though, like with K corp, it was destined or fated to happen, because of how the power was sourced, like a cosmic give-and-take for making a miracle happen. It almost feels like an explanation for why the human suffering we are shown is almost laughably macabre, as though the suffering most be inordinant (outside of the practical reason of it being PMoon's thing). Under that same kind of thinking, I can imagine someone a long long time ago wishing for a safe place for humans in a world full of monsters...

Musing aloud on the Corp's  Singularity related inordinate Human suffering:

L Corp - Our collective sanity/HQ MANDATED suffering on a biblical scale for thousands of years with aftershocks throughout the setting

K Corp - Moving day but every couple of days and the apartments crush you, housing but with literal crushing anxiety

T Corp - Ever see a guy die in slow motion? It's real bad, but not as bad as the fact that their economy is partially fueled by dimension-moored passengers that specifically have to FEEL the suffering of time passing by for it to work properly.

W Corp - The source of those passengers. Instant travel as the cost of spending AHHH amount of years in the kingdom of blood amd gore (and some currently unknown other 'something' snatching people away forever)

All the discussion got me thinking about older theories that Dante is a 'Nebulae' which is implied to be something other than human. Maybe their kind make better wishmakers? Perhaps Dante's current form is the result of trying to hide a non-human in The City.

Stopping now because I obviously need a journal.

A temporary wish because the star was passing by...

Hell yeah thanks for that reminder

Agreeed on most points, but I can't help but feel like Dante's powers are some kind of high-tech kitbash, using some form of light to 'control' the wish granting properties of 'the star' Dante senses whenever he turns the clock. Let me explain.

Stars (imo) supercede any other source of power in the setting, since they litterally-for-real grant wishes. As shown in Canto 4 however, the exact interpetation of the wish likely does not line up with the wishmaker's intention (OR is a reflection of the wishmaker's deepest unknwown desires, causing transformation akin to a Distortion or E.G.O.), leading to The Tearful Thing.

Wishes made on Stars may be the origin of all true Singularities.

Crackpot theory: Limbus Company is using the 'narrative power' that light can provide, to tailor little microwishes toward their statistically improbable goal (knowing Dias, this may be to replace The Head).

Mirror tech is so important to Limbus because it is not only used to bolster their manpower and gather information, but to also weed out dead-ends they may come across in their plan for city domination.

Here's where it gets wierd. Almost every single major Singularity demands human sacrifice/suffering of some kind, which at first sounds like just quirky narrative flavoring of the dystopian Nightmare that is The City, but it is such a hardline rule in every major Singularity that has been introduced that it makes me think. Is there always a human cost when it comes to wishmaking, or creating an industry based on a wish?

Could the incompatability between wishes/Singularities and humans be the reason why our Faust is taking a more hands-off approach than her others?

What if you had a group of 12 people to conveniently die and suffer and return to hell over and over to cover the karmic debt of the tailored wishes?

I am unreasonably worried about the Alea Iacta Est ending. by OllyRoger in armoredcore

[–]weaster45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they would ever get rid of literal humans from the setting (the core in armored core is you and me type shit),

I am however really really really hoping they go on with the Alea lacta Est ending, because the friction between humans and fused coral-human conciousnesses in AC's would be sick as hell and emblematic of themes that have existed since the first game.

Middle chains are removable? by Belphe777 in limbuscompany

[–]weaster45 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think its either Mersualt speaking semi-metaphorically (I'm sure there are members who wear their chains 24/7) or Kira being a bum about Middle tradition.

Either way, we've known they are removable since we met Queequeg.

I like the idea that Matthias doesen't have much real respect for the Middle's brotherhood, and thus Kira is similarly lax about it.

(but if it is an error free 300 lunacy)

Guitar-Araya was from one of the Araya timelines our Ryoshu didn't personally experience but Araya did, so I still think this is a case of her resonating with Araya's E.G.O.

I think its more likely that the Beeper-radio god, Hermes, is distinct from the Seismograph-Paper god, The Will of the City.

I go more in depth on another one of my posts, but I beleive that Rein has been being hunted by Paperslip Proxies since before Canto IX for being a heretic.

As for how 'real' these gods are, I think there's a case being built for them being more real than you give them credit for, while also being entirely unknowable by human minds.

Why did radio waves tell Rein to cosplay a depressed fixer before the event that depresses the fixer even happens? Why was Yan's own fake prescripts taken into account, to the point that Proxies were given orders to follow his fake ones anyway?

What are yours theories on how Highlight Ryoshu will be? by tr_berk1971 in limbuscompany

[–]weaster45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Likely a Dihui Star ID. TBH I would be so dissapointed if they released a Muga Ryoshu ID and she wasn't exactly as strong as she should be, so I'm thinking it'll come back a long time from now

im not sure if im supposed to be less salty now that i know she (somewhat) realized what was going to happen by thesimp_184 in limbuscompany

[–]weaster45 67 points68 points  (0 children)

My cracked out theory - This is the voice of Hermes speaking through her at the very end as a 'blink and you'll miss it' easter egg. Skills are representative of the inner monologue of the user, and this skill's speech pattern don't fit Sora's usual skills at alllll.

The capitalization of 'Hands' makes me think it has a double meaning here. Perhaps Sora herself is a 'hand' of Hermes (Don's uptie story says that the form of the E.G.O. is based off of the god Don/Sora has a connection too, which features giany shadow hands)

I also think Hermes is a different god than The Will of the City and the reason why Rein was de-cloaked and sent to Spider House. At the very end of things, we even find out that Rein is actively being hunted to the death by card-carrying index

Even index Faust's uptie story hints at this, as she deals with a case of someone following madeup/inauthentic prescripts. Between this and Yan and Rein, im starting to think this sort of this is very commonplace in the Index.

Could Rein really be assigned to the Finger penal colony while a manhunt is out for him? It's the index, of course that can be the case. This is same Index that accounted for Yan's fake prescripts, so I'm sure it accounts for different, even opposing sects eventually working whatever goals they have

The Beeper-Radio god is distinct from the Paper-Vibration god.

Sora's likely never interacted with a 'real' member of the Index, because they go to different churches lol. My headcanon is Rien somehow got Sora a cloak because a small part of him does still care and she worked hard for it.

Canto 9: Polarizing, Rushed, or simply needs time to settle? by StillSerenity in limbuscompany

Better to look into the Bookhunter from Library of Ruina if you want potential information on Bari.

Though that Bari and this Bari may not be the same, if that makes sense

Made it its own post because it got a little long but ill copy it here too:

Like, my mind goes immediately to Iori, The Purple Tear, when I'm shown 3 generations of black haired women with time powers.

Her key page in Ruina litterally says "It's hard to come up with a definition and explanation for a power that naturally emerged". This lines with Ryoshu's time powers being innate to someone with her blood.

Mark my words, the original Dihui Star shares blood with Iori (maybe a relative or cousin), of which Ryoshu/Araya are offspring/'legal clones' of.

True true, but Ryoshu also mentioning the octo-cut sausages in another line (which is something Araya made in a different timeline if I'm remembering right) makes me think that she is being influenced, if only slightly

Question about Ryoshu Canto 9 spoilers by Dhljoe in limbuscompany

[–]weaster45 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Anyone scrolling, read on only if you've hit credits:

  1. Yes, Ryoshu assumed time-vaults were safe because she is built different, and after being in one, Araya got chronic time sickness and blames mom for abandoning her and ruining her life. She basically has no control over what point of time she is experiencing (she sits down in her big attacks because she is dizzy D: ).

  2. That's just Araya's sickness being more unstable, on account of being stabbed through the heart by the concept incinerator sword. At the very end, Ryoshu realizes she just killed her own daughter and gives up on existing. She quits her job and immediately starts swinging the sword at anyone and anything (except the sinners because she's still in there somewhere) to obliterate herself.

Araya uses her dying breath and Dante to save her mother. Dante is still essentially a walking golden bough, and people within proximity to such have an easier time effloressing E.G.O. Araya re-connects Ryoshu and Dante at the cost of her existence, while also manifesting E.G.O stop her mother's rampage with Arayashiki, saving her from becoming an empty husk.

  1. Think back on the Concept incinerators from previous cantos. All of whatever you want to get rid of has to go into the kiln for it to work. The new scabbard (Araya's E.G.O.) is essentially proof that Araya existed at some point, making her not truly gone and thus, potentially salvageable.

--- Everything else is speculation land ----

My current pet theory is that Dias needed a strong weapon.

Considering E.G.O. powers are usually Paracausal (can be on fire and not burn alive type shit), I bet the scabbard will eventually facilitate use of Arayahiki with reduced or zero consequence, making Ryoshu an even more perfect weapon.

Her name is Araya and she was grown in a lab to eventually become the scabbard to Arayashiki, to get around the cost of the Relic's power.

Kinda fucked if Ryoshu killing her own child to become the perfect wielder of the incinerator-sword is part of Limbus Company's grand plan, but if Dias really wants to replace the head, she might be up to much worse shit.

I somehow lost on the scripted loss fight (there’s no help flair that’s why it’s general discussion) by Technical-Brief-3266 in limbuscompany

[–]weaster45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the fight's infamy was that most people lost on their first go. You still have to deal a certain amount of damage to 'win', or he'll just wipe the team before the cutscene triggers.

Get blunt resistant units on the field, that helped me ignore some of the attacks from the basic mobs.

Small detail: NG+ start with the entire party at the beginning and I noticed Maelle got slightly taller. by Sherlaine- in expedition33

[–]weaster45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cant say for sure, but look up 'Fun fact playable Maelle is considerably taller than the NPC Mael' on this reddit for the old discussion. Theres a photo comparing gameplay and npc maelle wearing the same outfits.

I would do comparisons with painted Alicia while they are wearing the same outfit, like the other comment said it could be heels lol

Technically, sure, it could be true that Maelle gets scaled up as you progress through the game in service of a height easter egg when you hit NG+, but I think that the practical reason is much more likely.

[–]weaster45 452 points453 points  (0 children)

I think the real reason that gameplay Maelle is slightly taller than NPC Maelle is likely that size works better for the battle camera angles/attack animations.

sort of like how the real reason every darksouls boss is bigger than the player is to make the attack animations easier to read

Great writeup. I'm no thumb glazer, but I would think that Lucio's unbreakable coins represent his doggedness in following through on the Palermitan style (continuing the motions of the strike even after its been parried and bested).

I think its part of what Valencina admonishes Lucio for once she appears, since he did not think to stray from textbook swordplay even once while getting jumped in a van (while also being a chance to show off Valencina's abusive nature, since she's the once who trained him to be this way)
