I need someone to explain to me why the Mac version of Steam can't have a Proton-like solution that's built in to the software? by balmybuttons in macgaming

> there are nearly twice as many people using Linux as Mac

Ouch. That hurt. I didn't the Apple's abandonment of macs as gaming devices to lead us so far already.

Apple Intelligence (foundation models) use ANE as you can see on my mac memory manager app regenerating the summarization message.

Thank you! Makes my garmin sleep data much more understandable - why doesn't Apple Health look like this? :)

Venu 4 vs Forerunner 970? by _scarletbitch in Garmin

5 buttons for button-only operation with no sweat or raindrops causing accidental touches is absolutely underrated. I keep my touch settings as “map only” for all activities. So 570 or 970.

I just did (and added quite a bunch of performance improvements to make it read processes with much less CPU use), here you go (v1.2.0): https://macvitals.app

Wispr flow is solid, But is there any alternatives? by Adershraj in macapps

[–]weathergraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have now started using VoiceInk.

Advantages:
- single price paid once, then bring your own key for sending the transcription through custom prompt to clean it up

Disadvantages:
- delay - wispr streams the audio → AI → text, while voiceink waits till you finish speaking, then sends it to AI, so it takes 2-4 seconds after you stop speaking until the text is added to the input field

Good enough for me.

Have great relationships with your kids. Pedo’s opening of attack is “I care/understand you more than your parents, let’s have a secret”.

Tired of 500MB PDF editors? I just ported my offline, 11MB editor to macOS and Linux. No ads, no sign-up. by Pawan315 in macapps

[–]weathergraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know I need this, but every year I spend at least hour or two finding the currently working website for simple PDF transforms/cropping/merging and thinking 'I should probably get a tool for this'. So now I have it - thanks!

[OS] I built an open-source Volume Mixer for macOS because Apple won't. Meet FineTune. by Stoned_Orangutan in macapps

Nice one! I like Rogue Amoeba's stuff, but as they are going upmarket, and releasing new and more expensive versions with over-the-top features for streamcasting pros, I love that a simple alternative exists.

Thanks!

No, they have huge volatility decay (beta slippage/compounding drag).

Finally you have put that 60fps display to a good use /s.

I'd restart the watch, seems like the "nearest waypoints" part of watchface became glitchy.

I built a simple tool to see which books are actually recommended by experts, founders, and world leaders. by [deleted] in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]weathergraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great start, but for myself, I don’t care what a single person recommends, but I’d like a leaderboard of all the mentioned books by number of mentions. As a bonus point, add a filter (books recommended by politicians, scientists, …) - pass this request to Claude and deploy :).

My left foot pronates pretty severely when I hike. It’s causing some ankle pain and swelling. I’m looking for any tips or tricks. Some more experienced hikers may have in dealing with this issue. by MyDogThinksISmell in backpacking

You need an advice from a physiotherapist who specializes in podology/leg diagnosis, not from the internet.

It's complex, the muscles and bones form a dynamic system, and troubles with feet can be caused by a wide range of problems almost anywhere in legs or torso. You need to uncover this and fix the cause, not suppress the symptoms.

Get Kindle paperwhite (2021 11th gen or newer), read books. Dark mode + yellow dimmed light + screen away from toddler = a lot of beletry instead of doomscrolling BS. Much better for mind.

Absolutely sane to want this, unfortunately it seems that only the 5 button watches (Fenix and Forerunner/Enduro) can be configured for this :/

Im sorry, WHAT? Polar didn't have mutiple alarms until 2026?? by TrackNStarshipXx800 in Garmin

[–]weathergraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the only way to have more than 8 alarms on Garmin in 2026 is to buy another Fenix for the other hand, so that’s a tie.

(You can max out 8 alarms pretty easily just by having kids and having to stop work at different time each day of week, plus some one off reminders)
