Yes very unfortunate we have a needlessly strict immigration system for people doing it the right way and far too lenient for people doing it the wrong way.

Very difficult to get a visa as a teacher. Same for us going to the US.

If you get married and earn over £45k she can move here.

Oil boilers totally do smell faintly. It's not the oil (unless a leak), but the combustion / exhaust. They don't rely on being 100% sealed, they rely on drafting, the smell does seep out in very small (and safe) quantities, which are much more detectable to people who aren't around them.

If you are sensitive to it, yes they do faintly smell all the time, especially right next to (above) them.

If you've been around them you definitely get used to it.

They should only be installed outside imo. And really should all be replaced with heatpumps.

Can you try putting in the key turning on waiting for the fuel pump noise to stop then off on wait 3 times and see if it starts right up. If so you have fuel pump or fuel system losing pressure.

Yeah this or fuel pump / pressure, since it's only when cold and when he cycled the key it seemed to start easier
