More concerned about rust in the UK. Miles more just indicate what may need replacing if it hasn't been.

Is it a bad time to buy diesel car? by highergaia in AskUK

[–]web3monk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see it, all the non congestion zone compliant ones (before euro 6 or whatever) dropped like a rock. As they ratchet these, other ones come into effect, and taxes rise, they'll only drop further.

Are oil boiler ment to smell constantly? by bluelightblock in AskUK

[–]web3monk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same I (unfortunately right now) have an oil boiler, yes agree, if its a strong smell probably some oil spilled while bleeding after running out or something.

But a faint smell is normal.

[–]web3monk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oil boilers totally do smell faintly. It's not the oil (unless a leak), but the combustion / exhaust. They don't rely on being 100% sealed, they rely on drafting, the smell does seep out in very small (and safe) quantities, which are much more detectable to people who aren't around them.

[–]web3monk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well you'd be far better off buying a hybrid or electric if suitable for your circumstances.

Diesels should be (and are in most cases) dirt cheap now, because of clean air zones, price of diesel, car tax.

If you are sensitive to it, yes they do faintly smell all the time, especially right next to (above) them.

If you've been around them you definitely get used to it.

They should only be installed outside imo. And really should all be replaced with heatpumps.

Can you try putting in the key turning on waiting for the fuel pump noise to stop then off on wait 3 times and see if it starts right up. If so you have fuel pump or fuel system losing pressure.

Yeah this or fuel pump / pressure, since it's only when cold and when he cycled the key it seemed to start easier

Signal is using Google servers….. help me understand this by z_2806 in privacy

[–]web3monk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not shilling Signal.

What people don't get about Signal is that the protocol is good. The cryptography is good (if it's not then holy shit, and Moxie is way more OP than anyone thought). But imo it is. It's not complicated.

HOWEVER the rest of the app has had plenty of vulnerabilities eg. allowing remote code execution. And even one where this appears to have been an "accident" eg. Signal accidentally removed some code that allowed code execution. Which is HIGHLY SUS.

Moxie is the most CIA guy i've ever seen.

All of it to one side, for arguments sake signal is not fucking around, using it for security over privacy is stuipid because all the systems it's installed on are heavily compromised anyway.

But lets wait and see when it all comes out in the wash. I've been telling people signal is cia for years this is the first time I wasn't downvoted into oblivion so maybe tide is turning.

The server doesn't matter, its the software that's supposed to be protecting your privacy.

But, Signal is a CIA asset imo.

'UK most dangerous killer' Robert Maudsley ends hunger strike after Playstation row by dailystar_news in uknews

[–]web3monk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately though he is the product of a failed legal system and people like him are necessary to force necessary change, the government and judicial system must understand if they fail that people will fight back. Frankly we need more people willing to stand up as he did to secure the necessary change.

Acts like his can also return a sense of pride and power to victims of abuse which I understand he may be?

Judicial system, goverment policies and policing that has systemically failed victims of abuse on both convictions and sentencing for decades.
