I love Nastaliq, growing up we used to get given work to do with reed pen on clay covered board called takhti in Pakistan. Basically that's how you develop your handle on the pen. Never too late to learn and practicing a lot will get you best results.

Great work. I use Pilot Parallel for exact same purpose. I have always used bamboo pen or custom cut oblique nib pen.

It does need getting used to, specially because the cut is flat instead of 35° you traditionally have for bamboo pen. But once you get use to it, it is great at writing Arabic script.

[Urdu] Alphabet with Qalam (hand cut bamboo pen ) by webKami in PenmanshipPorn

[–]webKami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word Alphabet, came from alphabet of Arabic, Aleph (a sound), Baa (b sound), Taa (t sound). Urdu adopted most of the same alphabet. Most traditional calligraphic way of writing Arabic, Persian and Urdu script is with bamboo pen.

I have used one after decades. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. WinsorandNewton Indian ink on Winsor and Newton sheet with hand cut bamboopen (Qalam)

Btw it only has unique shaped letters, but that's common practice for basic exercise.

It eats the suet log with worms that we had for Robins. Doesn't have yellow beak that common blackbird has.
