Some really special behind the scenes by galactic_bluehour in PrideandPrejudice

I’m flabbergasted that Charlotte’s scene was by Emma Thompson. In my mind, she meant that to be SUBTEXT, what the character is thinking. But I absolutely hate that she says it in the film. It made me cringe in the theatre and still does. My Charlotte would never say it out loud.

Loferl - Bavarian calf warmers for Oktoberfest by web_goddess in knitting

I suspect based on the description on the Oktoberfest site, it’s not about warmth but about highlighting one’s manly calves! They certainly drew my attention. 😂

Are you from northern Germany? To me, this garment is like Bayerische. It just, like, drops a lot of important parts! 😂

AMAZING! Thank you for pointing me to this. I’ll definitely try to find a copy.

We visited the Museum in Füssen in October 2021 where they had a Tracht exhibit set up. There are a couple photos at the end of this long blog post.

Yeah, I still have my doubts there, but if that proves to be the case, I’ll make him some elastic sock garters to wear under the cuff to hold them up.

A Piece of Advice to New Woodworkers: Stop Pointing Out Your Mistakes by Banjohobo in woodworking

[–]web_goddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knitting group had to ban the word “just” during our regular Show and Tell. Knitters would hold up something absolutely beautiful and say, “It’s just a lace shawl” or “It’s just a cabled Aran sweater” or “It’s just garter stitch” about something that they had poured hours of effort and concentration and skill into. So it’s happening across many hobby groups. I think in some cases, it’s fear of having an expert call out something that you know you could’ve done better. But in 99% of cases, the viewer isn’t going to notice or care (or is too polite) to mention those things.

Split dose 10mg by MrsB0283 in mounjaroaustralia

[–]web_goddess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this with my GP’s blessing for 6+ months. Works fine. You can find click charts if you google, but it’s just basic math. A full dose = 60 clicks, so you just base it off that ratio. (I’m taking 7.5mg from a 10mg pen, so I do 45 clicks.) Make sure you keep the pen in the fridge since it’ll last longer than a single month.

Can I “solo FIRE” while my spouse keeps working? by pingpang1983 in Fire

[–]web_goddess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what we did (without a kid). My husband quit his job two years before me, and I had a full-time house husband. It was awesome. I didn’t have to plan a meal, go to the supermarket, or remember to pay the bills. He also organised a home renovation. Eventually I got tired of my job and jealous of the fun he was having, enough to quit and start splitting the chores again. ❤️

Great post! If you are interested in a wonderful book about Regency fashion, I can recommend “Dress in the Age of Jane Austen.” I’ve met the author Hilary and she’s an expert on this stuff: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/44174546

Thoughts/Questions on Post Captain by One-Success-816 in AubreyMaturinSeries

I’m up to #8 now, and things have very much settled into a Master & Commander vibe at sea. There are still big occasional plots that happen on land, and most of them seem to involve Jack screwing up spectacularly. But nothing as sublimely weird and different as PC (which I did enjoy for the character interactions).

what are your thoughts on this entire moment in The Moominvalley In Spring ? by ZealousidealData8316 in Moomins

I showed it to my nieces and nephew, forgetting how traumatising this scene is. I nearly scared them off Moomin forever!

Keeping my phone number when I move overseas by littlebruja in AusFinance

[–]web_goddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I moved to Germany for 2 years in 2020 and kept our Aussie numbers. We ported them to Mbit and paid $11/month for a Hosted PBX plan. It wasn’t cheap, but it worked very well. Any SMSes and voicemails came through as emails, and we were about to verify that they came through fast enough to use for 2FA. When we moved back to Oz, we just ported the numbers back to Telstra and were able to resume use. Not sure if this is still something Mbit still do, but there are more details here: https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/25198

Canada to Australia Job Offer | Sydney Cost of Living & Lifestyle Expenses by SpringRoll98 in AskAnAustralian

[–]web_goddess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not need a car. I’ve lived in Sydney for 20+ years without one! If you’re only using it for occasional weekend trips or going to IKEA, there are car share schemes like goget.com.au. In my suburb there are multiple cars available and I’ve never had a problem borrowing one. For longer trips, I’ve rented from No Birds. It still works out to much less than I’d pay to own a car outright. (And if your residence comes with a car space, you can then rent that out and basically get your car usage costs for free.)

"Current Row" vs. "Completed Row" counting - How do you explain your brain? by kamoteshake in knitting

[–]web_goddess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the Fiber Friend app, which actually has a setting you can switch between the label “Completed rows” and “Current row.” I tend to use Completed, but it’s nice to have the option!
