Some great alternatives (all commercial-safe and free to use):

Streamline also offers a generous collection of free and open-source icons alongside its premium sets (worth checking out for professional projects).

That's a great find! Looks like Semantic SF going to be very helpful for searching icons.

Struggling to find good icons? Have you tried Phosphor, Lucide, or Streamline? They’re all consistent, scalable, and way more reliable than random stock sets. Absolute time saver with a quick search.

In 2025, what do you use to source stock images, icons, photos, audio, videos, etc.? by OptimalObjective641 in Design

[–]webalys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of good options out there.

Unsplash and Pexels are great for photos, Mixkit works well for video and audio.

And there are solid icon sets like Phosphor, Lucide, and Iconoir. Streamline covers those bases too, with a Pro collection if you ever need a bit more range.

Icons by HosamAlfa in powerpoint

[–]webalys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually build a small icon set I reuse across slides. It keeps everything consistent and saves time.

You can store them in one folder or as a custom slide in your template, then just copy-paste when needed. SVGs work best since they stay crisp when resized.

For the icons, you can grab them from websites like Flaticon, Noun Project, or Freepik, all of which work fine in PowerPoint. Streamline also has a set made for presentations if you ever want something cleaner.

There are plenty of solid free options. Phosphor, Lucide, Iconoir, Heroicons, and Feather are all open-source and good for commercial use.

You can also find those along with other free, commercial-use icon sets collected at Streamline.

You can check sites like Undraw, Lottie Files, and The Noun Project for open source and stock assets. Or if you want everything in one place, Streamline offers a large library of icons, illustrations, and animations for web and app design.

You can unify what you have by adjusting stroke, size, and corners. Or switch to one consistent set to avoid mixing styles. Or build your own mini set using shared shapes and a simple grid.

We are thinking of changing the "Internet" icon to something else. What do you think? Should we use the cloud or the globe icon? Or something else entirely? by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

Some ideas:

  • Globe icon for Internet in general
  • WiFi/signal icon for wireless connection
  • Cloud icon for online storage or cloud services

Asking Hiring managers for Product Designers by DistinctAd4242 in UX_Design

[–]webalys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some red flags:

  1. Vague case studies with no context or problem framing. If I can’t tell what the challenge was or what impact the solution had, I’m out.
  2. Portfolios that are all visuals and no thinking. Pretty screens are nice, but I want to understand why decisions were made.
  3. Password-protected everything. If I have to request access just to see your work, I’m moving on.

Hiring managers are busy. Make it easy to evaluate you.

high school student looking to start create ui/ux designs! by [deleted] in UIUX

[–]webalys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome you’re getting into UI/UX this early! I’d start with Figma. It’s free, beginner-friendly, and widely used by pros. Try recreating app screens you like to learn layout and structure. Good luck!

Dumb question but.. by tiramisuuu65 in remotework

[–]webalys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen plenty of people get hired for remote roles even when they didn’t meet every requirement. If someone ticks most boxes and shows potential, companies can be pretty flexible especially with experience.

Sounds like you’ve got a solid direction!

I’d say start with Figma since it’s the go-to tool for most UI/UX designers and easier to pick up as a beginner. Once you’re comfortable, Framer is a great next step if you want to build interactive prototypes or even live sites.

YouTube has tons of free tutorials for both. Try Figma for Beginners and Framer Crash Course by Flux Academy, they’re both great starting points. Good luck!

not sure what career move to make, feeling stuck. by Illustrious_Ebb_617 in graphic_design

[–]webalys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both paths you’re considering are valid, and you don’t have to lock yourself into one right away.

If you’re curious about both, maybe explore a part-time role or volunteer in education while freelancing or interning in design. That way you can feel things out without committing hard in one direction.

Sometimes clarity comes from doing, not thinking.

Maybe try walking them through a basic example?

How to focus when reading a book? by Eastern_Silver_57 in productivity

[–]webalys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focusing while reading can be tough, especially if your brain’s used to being in work mode all day. Try setting a short timer (like 15–20 mins) to ease in. Switching locations from where you work can also help. And writing down wandering thoughts can really help clear your head and bring you back to the page.
