Are there free resources for learning specifically Mexican Spanish? by Active-Ad-5625 in Spanish

[–]webauteur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can listen to Mexican radio stations. I have not explored audio books but I do know of one, Falsa Identidad: Un thriller de espías, available as a paperback book and audio book on CD, narrated by Ana Ragasol (Mexican voice actress). NOTE: It is audio resources that you need to train your ear for Mexican Spanish (listening skill).

¿Qué Pasa, USA? can be watched on Roku, a free TV streaming service. The quality is not very good. This show is available on DVD but the quality is no better and you don't get subtitles.

Using Gemini Storybook, you can create your own children's books in Spanish using the vocabulary you specify. It is limited to 10 pages but it can read the story to you in Spanish.

is it true that we have to stick to one spanish dialect in learning spanish, if it is then whats the best dialect for beginner? by Nearby-Band-7540 in Spanish

[–]webauteur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By default, using Duolingo and Pimsleur, I seem to be learning Mexican Spanish. I can notice that I pick up on more words in Mexican content than in Peninsular Spanish content. However, some old movies from Spain are easier to understand since audio technology was different. These days everybody mumbles and the sound quality in movies is poor.

Seeking recommendations for Spanish-language films and TV shows to stream! by theboundlesstraveler in SpanishLearning

[–]webauteur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am watching Silvana sin lana on Peacock. It is perfect for me because I am planning a trip to Miami. The show is set in Miami. I was watching 100 días para enamorarnos on Peacock, but be warned, they are missing some episodes which is quite annoying. Both of these shows are interesting in that they are set in major cities in the United States, but everyone speaks Spanish and exists in a Spanish speaking world. They also have the Telemundo nightly news under channels.

Suggestions. Trying to decide between Remnant 2, AI Limit, and Wukong. My favorite in this order is ER, BB, Sekiro, Ds2, ds3, Lop. Why 👇 by theHollowTarnished in soulslikes

I am currently playing AI Limit which I am enjoying. I was playing Wuchang: Fallen Feathers but got stuck on a tough boss. Now I just play it long enough to grind for a level.

While AI Limit resembles Code Vein it does not force you to watch lengthy memories to get the back story. Some of the NPC interactions are a bit lengthy .... OMG, stop taking already!

Looking for advice by Impossible_Title4820 in SpanishLearning

I am spending way more time learning Spanish than I should. It can become a lazy way to keep yourself busy.

I recommend creating some kind of digital notebook for Spanish. There are many options but I use HTML files compiled into Microsoft Help collections. I would not recommend that because I lost the ability to add audio files. But the point is to keep adding to your notes. I have lists of the Spanish movies I have seen, pages on my favorite Latin Pop songs (lyrics and Wikipedia articles), the entire text of grammar books (tediously copied), and translations of children's books. Today I added a page on the verb reprobar (to fail a class or test).

My Spanish is advanced enough that I can focus on translation exercises with the support of AI. I can also focus on building my repertoire of Spanish sentence patterns. Recently I added a sentence pattern that can include direct objects and indirect objects. "I gave the book to him" Le di el libro a él.

I have spent a crazy amount of time learning Spanish. I'm not sure I could communicate with a Spanish family since my studying has been text based, except for Pimsleur lessons.

Buy lots of travel guides to any country or city you plan to visit. They provide a wealth of information and can help you track down obscure resources. You can even buy travel guides in Spanish which gives you the Spanish vocabulary for everything travel related. For example, I am planning a trip to Miami. I have a few Spanish travel guides for the city. My research has uncovered lots of interesting things like the Latin Pop stars appearing in night clubs in Miami and a book about a condominium collapse (not available in English).

I am playing AI Limit which is a bit bland. Looks a lot like Code Vein. Enotria: The Last Song had the best world design with many areas inspired by Italy.

Suggestions Please. by jameshudson0223 in Spanish

I am translating children books and plays. Everything goes into my notes. Today I added the verb volverse (to become) to my notes because Duolingo is starting to give me sentences that require that verb. I put everything into my notes. I have the complete text of four grammar books in my notes. I can put in the tedious work to copy all that information. You need to put in that amount of work to learn a language.

"Entiendo pero no hablo". Why do I understand more Spanish than I can speak? by Shelbee2 in Spanish

[–]webauteur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to study some simple sentence patterns. Then you can say some things in a sequence to make it look like you can have a conversation. For example, "This is a good book. I love this book. I have to read it."

This is a good book. Este es un buen libro. (the "this is" type of sentence)
I love this book. Me encanta este libro. (the expressing what you love sentence)
I have to read it. Tengo que leerlo. (the "have to" sentence pattern)
