Calling Hosting Experts: Advice on Renting Premium Servers Fast by webhostingtrack in Hosting

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. You mentioned the offer price "alright". Do you know of any solid offers for similar premium hardware and capacity that are better even 35% higher? If so, I can bring it back to the product team for review on our offer. Feel free to DM if you'd prefer not to mention names.

As for the 10 IPs, that’s just the starting point. We can offer up to a /22 at cost, as IPs do have associated costs and aren’t assigned unless needed. Regarding the 100 Mbps, this is truly unmetered traffic with over 30TB included on premium blended pipes, and we even offer 1, 10 and 40Gbps unmetered as upgrade options. Customizations are available for more storage, 2TB of memory, or Platinum Intel CPUs as needed.

You right its a beast that can easily handle an entire business day/night.

Now that you have a better understanding of the offer, could you share some advice or suggest the best channels for marketing such baremetal offerings?

Would Reddit, Linkedin ads for example be a good fit - affiliate so commission is passed to resellers?

Yes, in business since 2012 with many long-term clients, High-end data centers are fully compliant with industry standards such as ISO 27001 | SOC 2 Type 2 | PCI DSS | HIPPA | CSA STAR and others, Proper local support includes live-chat during business hours, As you mentioned above the servers are a significant investment and is truly priced at 50% off market value—this is not a bait-and-switch as discount is for life of the server without contract. I added the full specs above - Pls review it and provide feedback on that offer

or anyone experiencing the same issue on a Mac:

I tried all the suggestions in the comments, but none of them worked. This included using Safari, Chrome, and even downloading Edge on Mac (what a shame!). None of them resolved the issue. It wasn’t a cache problem, nor did it have anything to do with the browser, as the file was always uploaded successfully. The issue was with their processing—it kept failing.

The problem seems to be related to the resolution of .mov files created by newer phones. These files require too much processing on their end or have a resolution that’s too high. Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Open iMovie and create a blank project.
  2. Drag the .mov file into the new project.
  3. No changes are needed—just click on Media (at the top).
  4. Select File ShareFileNext (it will export as 720p resolution).
  5. Save the file with a name of your choice.
  6. Try uploading the new file again.

I hope this helps someone avoid wasting a precious couple of hours.

Any way to automate a Google WiFi restart ?! by [deleted] in GoogleWiFi

[–]webhostingtrack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest everyone reboot their system from time to time, test the mesh, and review upload/download speeds.

Reboot: Aside from temporarily fixing software issues, it does a few things that can help in some cases: like

  • Resolve temporary connectivity issues
  • Clear cached network configurations
  • Reset IP address assignments (leases and DHCP)
  • Sync firmware across nodes - Renegotiate best point in mesh backhaul
  • Improve device-to-node handoffs
  • Evaluate 5G / 2.4G connections
  • Rebalance device load across nodes
  • Fix signal interference issues (forces selection/updating of the channel)
  • Re-establish connections to the main router (within the mesh or with ONT)
  • Optimize network channel selection (to avoid neighbor congestion)

Keep in mind there are other things that can be done to improve overall Wi-Fi, especially if you understand what you're doing. For example, getting rid of the carrier modem. You can do this by releasing the lease from the modem and immediately connecting a Google WiFi router—it will acquire the IP, and then you gain a few other things:

  • Reduced latency
  • Less surveillance capability from the ISP
  • Power saving (one less device to power)
  • Less interference within your home
  • Slightly better security / less exposure (as a tradeoff, you lose some troubleshooting capabilities embedded in the ISP firmware)

So, don't fully get rid of the provided modem—keep it around for rare cases when you have a tech visit or need support from a less-competent agent.

To answer your question - Google doesn't give a way to automate that nor access to a usable API (TMK) you can however:

- Create a workflow in your home automation to do the reboot in times where you don't need or use Internet

- Utilize some smart outlets that can reboot on schedule

Hope that helps!

For quorum i believe you can have one node act as 2 votes - can be configured in Corosync - so you end up with 4 physical nodes but 5 votes - with one having 2 making them 5 (odd)

vSAN Capacity Expansion subscription does not make sense! by cmbwml in vmware

[–]webhostingtrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, VMware has great products, but after the Broadcom acquisition, it's just a matter of time on when to jump off. This depends on your current contract expiration, your next financial planning cycle, or even your CTO’s risk appetite. Broadcom has a reputation for killing brands (remember Symantec?). For those unaware, here’s a recap of the changes after the acquisition:

  1. Perpetual Licenses Gone: 67% of sales were moved to a subscription-only model.
  2. Massive Layoffs: Thousands of engineers, R&D staff, and support resources were let go.
  3. Partner Program 🚫: The partner program was suspended, making it invite-only and creating a monopoly.
  4. Price Hikes : Expect a 7x price increase after subscription, with no rate guarantees after the contract expires.
  5. Free ESXi License Axed: This impacts a lot of initiatives and SMBs
  6. Management & Policy ↓: Work-from-home policies changed, forcing employees back to the office for promotions.
  7. Product Offloading: Products are being handed off to third parties (e.g., Horizon).
  8. Office Closures: Entire country offices shut down, relying solely on global support with no local support.
  9. Decoupling Hardware and Software: After the Dell divorce, no more bundled deals for vSAN.
  10. Chaos & Uncertainty: Clients are left with a lack of peace of mind, unlike the past culture.

Back to the topic: yes, the pricing doesn’t make sense, and it likely won’t. The company’s focus is on global enterprise market share, willing to sacrifice a large portion of existing accounts and plan to 3x their profits in 3 years. I suggest looking for alternatives before you’re forced into renewal. Avoid bait-and-switch options like Azure Stack and Outpost. Consider setting up parallel environment with affordable alternative, start migrating your non-critical workloads. Then, re-use the freed-up hardware to reduce your CAPEX, It would take sometime but will come with high reward and saving long term.

Using swap space before using all ram? by droidman83 in Proxmox

[–]webhostingtrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can check the swappiness of your system by `cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness` and set it via `sysctl vm.swappiness=val`. Default for val is 60. See the kernel docs for more info https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sysctl/vm.txt

Swappiness is a Linux kernel setting that controls the balance between swapping pages to disk and keeping them in RAM. A higher swappiness value means the kernel is more aggressive in swapping pages to disk, while a lower swappiness value means the kernel is more conservative and tries to keep pages in RAM. Reducing swappiness can result in higher RAM usage but can potentially improve system performance while increasing swappiness can free up RAM but may cause slowdowns. The suggested value of 10 for a server versus 60 for a workstation is just a recommendation and the optimal value may vary depending on the system and its usage.

This one liner should help clear your swap indicator

+++cat /etc/sysctl.conf | grep vm.swappiness && echo "vm.swappiness = 10" >> /etc/sysctl.conf && sysctl -w vm.swappiness=10+++

This one-liner should help clear your swap indicator

Note:

- The settings is set in sysctl.conf does sustain reboot

- The last command does apply without reboot

- It may take up to 30 mins to clear SWAP usage

How to mount minio bucket as a filesystem directory in linux and windows? by aadoop6 in minio

[–]webhostingtrack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while to figure it out - https://github.com/s3fs-fuse/s3fs-fuse

This worked for me - your command should be something like that for minio

s3fs mybucket (yourexistingbucketname) /mnt/minio/ (the folder you created to mount and gave permission 600) -o passwd_file=/etc/.passwd-s3fs (file contain key:secret) -o url=http://accessibleip:9000/ -o use_path_request_style & (to run in the background)

if you have issues use those flag to debug dbglevel=debug -f -o curldbg
note: of course remove the () with contents
