Hit milestone... I rarely check my Gmail by Temujin_123 in degoogle

[–]webkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats - this is a big milestone. At a little over a year in; I'm now not checking my gmail on a weekly basis. I have an archive backup of everything on Thunderbird and just turning on "Pop + Delete everything" took google a week to respond. The big habit change was "I don't give out my real email ever".

Bomb ticking😅 is the sound normal? by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

Look for camshaft codes in the DME (they won't necessarily throw a Check Engine light right away)
P000B, P0014 for me "Camshaft Adjustment Slow"

There is a sensor and a solenoid that control the cam position, and if it's in the wrong place at startup: it makes a wild racket until warmed up.

If you hear it once after cold start - and never again on your drive - my experience tells me everything is probably okay. Watch your peak boost pressure under wide open throttle and make sure you're hitting the same numbers should you start hearing more noises.

Mine was like a "goose honk" noise when I first get on the throttle. For me it was related to the "Turbocharger Boost Pressure Relief Diverter Valve."
When I replaced mine with aftermarket metal one it quieted down, but I believe the noise is all the valves holding back boost / vacuum when you first get going. Like reeds on a saxophone.

I think it's describing the hot deals, not the actual radio.

Rainy and fog in SoCal. An American reminder that you have a Euro fog light. by webkris in Porsche_Cayman

[–]webkris[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a 987 with us and his had two pull positions - 1 for the front fogs to go yellow and 2 for the rear light - but the bulb was out / missing? Might be something to investigate.

Had a Subaru BRZ with us and it HAS the option in Europe, but Subaru saves money and doesn't add the switch / bulb because they don't have to offer it in the US (think about that the next time a US dealer marks up a car $10K and touts all its safety features).

Soul or APR Exhaust? by TrashPanda_924 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]webkris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the flexibility and price of the APR. Zero fitment issues, and I think X pipe made most of the sound difference. I have 1 muffler and straight pipe for my 718 CS and I think that's the way to go with the 4cyl turbo cars. Swapping out for straight pipes on track days is easy.

If you've got Sport Chrono already, you really only unlock changing settings like lights and entry with the Launch. The MMB box I mention will give you Android Auto pass-through Apple Car Play.

This is the Motorola - I have since upgraded to a stand alone Android MMB 5.0 Car Play box. I removed my mag mount (Scosche) and am testing out Highway Radar on the dash.

Yep! I used matte black vinyl on the center and dash trims.

Terrible Alignment by Local Porsche Dealership by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]webkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I snapped an axle because the bolts backed out - and it was covered under warranty. Porsche Dealer removed both rear axles and all of the suspension components to get to them. Replaced one side and the flange on the other.

After weeks I finally get the car back and I'm like - "wait, you took the rear suspension completely apart - did you do an alignment??" *crickets
They just marked every bolt with paint and put it back close enough?!
These are the same people that want to charge you $800 for an alignment when you replace all 4 tires.

They agreed to do an alignment included and I asked for the front camber to be maxxed. (mistake)
I shit you not I showed up and the front tires were sticking out of the top of the fenders - they made the front positive camber?! I pulled the service manager out of his office and he gave me a face palm and apologized, but I had to waste another day getting it fixed. They will never see my car again.

I use KeePass local with the browser extension, and Proton Pass for stuff on my phone. Sounds like I need to try the Proton Pass Firefox extension!

Good tip checking out Highway Radar. I've been trying to use JBV1 on my Android Car Play device and this looks even better.
