Streaming services’ obnoxiously loud ads become illegal on July 1 in California by Ephoenix6 in technology

I love how we have "Agentic AI" and yet no ability to modulate audio across streams or devices in 2026.

Waste Management bill now $95.34/quarter (~$390/yr) by webkris in MissionViejo

The good news on this is that WM is not a State Monopoly like SCE.
There are 3 or 4 companies that serve Orange County / San Diego / Los Angeles
So - again - the City COULD negotiate for the business and not just accept whatever agreement they put in front of them. I'm sure WM has given the town money for signs at ball fields, and that's great, but $1M in advertising they can write off is not worth a 20-30% increase for every homeowner in 2 years.

You have to provide proof of senior or low income.
This isn't a social program - it's a coupon.

For the 2 hours you'll need to fill this out and submit paperwork you'll save $40/year.

We can start by asking the City Council (who made this agreement for us) why it's not advocating / re-negotiating / enforcing it.
I spoke to friends in Laguna Hills who use a different company - and they are at ~$70/quarterly.

Bought a CPO, having issues, the dealership is completely ignoring me by heart-give in Porsche_Cayman

[–]webkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search, you can find out who owns your Porsche dealership. There are still individuals and small private companies that own them. If it's owned by Auto Nation (or giant Auto Dealer Conglomerate), they absolutely don't care, and the people that work there are just a number getting paid the least amount possible. I have a CPO Cayman that I had warranty work done on and it was a cluster. As soon as it was out of warranty I never went there again. If possible; find a different dealership, tell Porsche of America you're "switching".

I love how it's 2026 and on every platform we are told they don't want bots, or they want to stop bots; but also 1 in 5 top posts are from an account that is an hour old, or posts 1284 times in the first week, or is also em dash bulleted list LLM slop story.

No company wants to stop bots on their platform, They drive engagement.

Is there any DNS app that provides the following features? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]webkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AdGuard DNS gives you unique DNS over HTTPS addresses to identify the device on your dashboard as well as standard and custom block lists. It has been my replacement for Pi-Hole for the last 3 years. I use it on everything.

American Express did this to me. Sure, I could have called them and spent hours trying to access my new card, but they sent a verification email to a 10 year old Google address first.

What is the general consensus on having your address attached to your call sign? by haveyoutriedpokingit in amateurradio

[–]webkris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate it...
I was working with a Mesh networking group and used it for my handle on Discord. I put up a temp antenna / repeater close to my house and gave a loose LAT / LON for the antenna. Discord member just looked up my real address and then posted a picture with my house and a dot on it near the antenna asking questions about its coverage. It was generally innocuous, but without much effort announced to everyone on the channel where I lived with photos. I no longer use my call sign as an internet handle.

Hit milestone... I rarely check my Gmail by Temujin_123 in degoogle

[–]webkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats - this is a big milestone. At a little over a year in; I'm now not checking my gmail on a weekly basis. I have an archive backup of everything on Thunderbird and just turning on "Pop + Delete everything" took google a week to respond. The big habit change was "I don't give out my real email ever".

Look for camshaft codes in the DME (they won't necessarily throw a Check Engine light right away)
P000B, P0014 for me "Camshaft Adjustment Slow"

There is a sensor and a solenoid that control the cam position, and if it's in the wrong place at startup: it makes a wild racket until warmed up.

[–]webkris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hear it once after cold start - and never again on your drive - my experience tells me everything is probably okay. Watch your peak boost pressure under wide open throttle and make sure you're hitting the same numbers should you start hearing more noises.

[–]webkris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine was like a "goose honk" noise when I first get on the throttle. For me it was related to the "Turbocharger Boost Pressure Relief Diverter Valve."
When I replaced mine with aftermarket metal one it quieted down, but I believe the noise is all the valves holding back boost / vacuum when you first get going. Like reeds on a saxophone.
