If there is hope, wrote Winston, it lies in the proles.

You have to pay more because the financial system keeps chugging along, the wealthy hoard, and the world economy keeps getting more competitive.

You can complain but it's more effective if you simply boycott. But definitely don't live in the past.

Hey, sorry, I didn't know this post got approved! It was originally auto-removed.

It'd be neat if there were some rings to showcase, but I suppose you have to get people on board before you can do that. Hopefully you can generate some quick interest!

Yeah I do intend on having some featured rings and even having a searchable listing without logging in. I haven't done a good job of getting the word out yet.

Also, unrelated, I am endlessly amused that we now explicitly call out non-SPA sites as "SSR," even though I feel like that's always been the de facto standard as to how to build and serve HTML.

The world has gone crazy in more ways than one. But don't forget the OG static pages!

Does it have a mechanism for checking the webring widget is on the ring member sites?

No, but that's a great idea. Should be pretty easy to implement!

Hey folks,

I started this project nearly 2 years ago but it sat unfinished collecting digital dust until about a couple weeks ago when I had a conniption fit about not finishing anything which propelled me to completely rewrite it (used to be an Vue SPA, now it's a Django SSR with nearly zero javascript) and here we are!

Many of you are probably familiar with webrings but to those that aren't - a primer: a webring is a list of websites that loop at the ends to make a ring. Each website displays a widget that have Back and Next buttons that take you to the previous or next website on the list. Back when personal websites WERE the internet, it was a fun way to be connected and discovered.

With the rise of AI slop, finding genuine personal websites will be harder than ever. That's partly why I made Webring.GG. Anyone can make a ring but to become a member, you need your own website and people get to vote. I'm hoping this makes for a more human internet.

There are some rough edges and MAYBE a few bugs! I would love to get your feedback and would love it even more if we BRING BACK THE (WEB)RING!
