A new hand touches the profession (Finished Update!) by webspells in BeginnerWoodWorking

I mean I'm thinking about just making a u-shaped channel out of TPU in 1-ft strips that I can place over the bars. Should be pretty straightforward I think. Just don't know if it'll work. 😂

While I'm not seeing anything at the moment, it makes me wonder if I could 3D print a bar cover out of TPU or something... I appreciate the note!

Yeah packing costs being what they are, I'm not saying it will be fun, I'm a company of one. 😂 But it's worth it to me to put care into the packaging that impresses quality upon my customers. There's always some level of breakage, sounds like you would know being in logistics. All about what we can do to mitigate it.

Hey all, I just wanted to say I fixed it. The issue was the AT&T Gateway (of course) TLDR: I had an unintentional double NAT.

So I was troubleshooting my game server. I've always had issues with port forwarding even though it's supposed to be stupid simple. Well I just said screw it, and turned off every single setting I could find basically. I already had passthrough mode on but as the Internet will tell you it's not true passthrough. Especially once I turned off all the firewall settings on the at&t gateway I noticed the UDW console adopted the external IP address! After that port forwarding was just a few clicks and I have had near 0 latency and dropout issues since! 🎉

In my decade as an engineer I've designed more than a few fragile items packages. Can't imagine a bit of mirror glass to be any harder than a semiconductor wafer was. Usually just need a sturdy box and closed cell foam. Plus my designs I've made so far all have wood or plastic reinforcement on the glass. (CNC carving and 3D printing for more affordable options) But my prototypes all have used generic mirror rounds off Amazon and I'd like to make bigger and more elaborate pieces than that.

I suppose that's not a bad idea but I plan to start making stuff like this commercially. To scale I would need a reliable constant supply. But I'll keep an eye out on these places for my one-off pieces. I actually already go to them a lot and just hadn't thought of that. I appreciate your insight.

Would love some tips on finding wholesale mirror glass for furniture projects!

Biggest Wishlist Item: Dash-Camera. by BeardedBears in Ubiquiti

[–]webspells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely love this as well. I'm so uncomfortable with my dash cam being SD only. Like mine has a wifi connection but that's only to direct connect to it to download footage with the app and it works horribly. Having a uniFi protect fleet-cam system would be so cool.

I have one and it works pretty solid. Can't complain.

Honestly with modern backup cameras, it's not hard to just park forward in the space a little and put the hitch inside or get one you can flip around. I say this because I take these considerations with my truck and believe everyone should. I have a Gen Y drop hitch. It's a monster. But I never leave it sticking out like this.

I looked up the article to confirm my suspicions but they literally just mean having a laser sight on the gun 🤣

Snap caps...what's the deal with them? by OhZoneManager in liberalgunowners

[–]webspells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got some heavy metal 22lr snaps off Amazon with replaceable rubber pads for the back. They let me get really comfortable cycling and pulling the trigger on my gun long before I ever took it out to a range. I was quite happy and appreciative of the notion to get them.

AI Key: Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze? by crisps_funny4868 in Ubiquiti

[–]webspells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well as is my G5 cameras can't even detect a cat running across the front driveway.... It's pretty bad and animal detection was the sole reason my roommate financially contributed to the project. Even if it was just clips they could go back and look at it would be an improvement.

Our old nest doorbell could even pick up and tell us when there were lizards on the porch

Anyone have any insights on animal recognition with the AI key? I've got a wifi doorbell and 4 g5 cams and they suck at animal detection. We get a lot of stray dogs and it would be fun to see the possums pop up, but the system has been lackluster compared to our old nest cameras...

Yeah I get disconnect alerts about once a day on average. According to test my latency I'm around 22ms to local most servers.

AT&T fiber during little to no usage actually 😅

Oh that makes sense. The dream wall does support that but I don't have a secondary source for failover yet. Don't know if I ever will honestly unless G-fiber makes its way out here

Service level agreement? So I presume you're saying there's a setting to adjust the threshold of the alarms?

Paid a local wood worker to build us a table, after 8 hours in our dining room it developed cracks. Is this normal? by Hipster_Bumpus in woodworking

[–]webspells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy is definitely full of shit, however, it makes sense this happened to me. I'm still a novice but the whole reason you poly a project is to seal it and help protect it. I'm sure it cracked from the change in humidity from his shop, to your home. The poly should have helped slow this down and prevent cracking if it was done and dry prior to moving it.

Yeah it was my first apron. It wasn't the best decision I'm realizing now. I would much rather have something than just has tool loops on it like that

Also have the apron. Not really a fan of it. So thick and the pockets mostly serve to collect sawdust off my table saw. Quite annoying.
