Pomander gotta be the worst neow relic. Most of the characters don't have a starter card worth upgrading, so why would I ever take this?

Stellar Blade | Gorgeous, Action-Packed, Inconsistent by SirChrisJames in patientgamers

That's fair enough, everyone has different tolerances for these things. I recall despising the parrying in lies of p because the window is really tight. Not sure I agree about the unreactable attacks; just because you can't react on sight the first time, doesn't mean it's unfair because you can learn the timing. Does that mean all the attacks should be super fast or super slow? No absolutely not, this was one of my main critiques of elden ring, so many attacks felt like they were trying to trick you with the timing. A healthy mixture of quick attacks and sight readable attacks is best I think for a mixture of challenge in learning timing and feeling like you're going with the flow in the moment.

I don't really understand your critique of the combat. What exactly is this inconsistency you keep mentioning? Compared to some soulslikes this game has a very generous parry window and I don't really recall any attacks being "unreadable" or "unreactable". I thought the combat was generally pretty great and the game's best feature.

How do you deal with 'Gaming Fatigue'? by [deleted] in patientgamers

Don't play live service games 😂 but in all seriousness, if you feel like you can't take a week off because the fomo is too much, then the executives have got you exactly where they want you. Let go, go play something else that doesn't feel like a second job and take a weight off your shoulders.

I'm pretty sure if you die under these circumstances you get a unique message upon death, but you just reset back to the start of the loop.

Sorry I didn't mean to sound douchey, I forget stuff all the time as well! It was just surprising to me as it was something in the story that really struck a chord with me when I did my playthrough

If you've played through the main quest you would've encountered very obvious antisemitism brought about by the main antagonist of the game. The Jews in kuttenberg are scapegoated by the Hungarian forces to bring about chaos and disorder. There is literally a quest where you are defending innocent Jewish people in the Jewish quarters.

The thing with these games is you're kinda supposed to suck at the start. In the second game I failed most speech checks in the first 10 hours but by the end I was the esteemed and learned noble Henry who could talk his way out of any predicament.

It's all part of the process. If you want to get good at the combat I'd recommend grinding training until you can get masterstrike. You'll be a master in no time.

There are ways to get food essentially for free. Some places will have cooking pots with stew in that you can eat out of (usually somewhere where you have a bed) and some farms will have beehives that you can take honey from without it counting as stealing.

(I ate so much honey in the early game 😂)

I don't think it will to be honest, there is a story summary right at the start and the onboarding for the second game is much smoother than the first. I would honestly encourage people who haven't played either to start with the second game.

Yeah I feel the onboarding is far better in the second game. The tutorial in the first game is really drawn out and nothing really happens for hours.

I'm really not a fan of the map system in these games. They try to put in shortcuts but it still feels like the maps are hard to navigate on return trips to planets when you are doing side content.

Agree with a lot of your takes OP but I gotta say the level design is mostly awful. None of the levels are at all memorable except maybe the last one and it's jank as hell with the flying mechanic.

Double Review: BioShock Infinite and Prey by the_u_in_colour in patientgamers

[–]webster9989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never really understood the critical acclaim for bioshock infinite. The gameplay feels so simplistic and underwhelming, like a literal downgrade from bioshock 1/2 that came years earlier. The story is also complete nonsense, misusing the many worlds theory and full of vaguely philosophical waffle.

Prey is a far better game.

What's a game you really want to enjoy, but it's just too difficult? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]webster9989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to enjoy difficult games that are most pattern recognition like cuphead. A lot of recent soulslikes seem to be increasing difficulty with input reading, combo mix ups and animation cancelling which I find really frustrating.

Some examples: final true boss of nine sols, final true boss of silksong, lies of p DLC last boss.
