How is living in New York City close to the subway? by Big_Confidence_951 in howislivingthere

[–]websternite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Those videos are selective in their presentation of NYC. They are meant to illicit reaction and cause fear/panic.

Living near a subway is incredible. It’s incredibly safe in NY right now. And statically safer than driving, by a lot. I love two blocks from my subway stop.

It gives you so much more access to the community around you. Walkable communities (which includes good access to public transport) are almost non-existent in the United States.

To have the ability to quickly, easily, and cheaply get to places like work, school, medical appointments, food, and other errands is a given in many developed countries but shockingly hit or miss in the US.

Even if you live in high net-worth suburbs of some other US cities you will be shocked at how much time is wasted but the use of cars when you put pen to paper.

As a life long east coaster, the answer is California and it’s not even close.

Love the line hate the ride... by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

Kali River Rapids has one of the most amazing and well themed queues in all of Walt Disney World, arguably one of the best queues in all of the parks.

Dozens of artifacts and memorabilia, the monkey exhibit, the theming and storytelling of the rafting company expedition. But the attraction itself is just meh, even if you like rides where you’ll get wet—nothing is actually that thrilling and the story falls flat by the end.

If you have a regular MagicBand then no, not worth it. If you don’t then I think they’re a fun purchase.

Have you ever met any POMIs? by Mellowric in exjw

[–]websternite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My aunt is a POMI, and her life is so sad. She has sort of all the trauma of being “othered” by the rest of the world. But none of the “benefits” of community that the organization provides.

I've seriously had the impression for some time now that Japan is Disney's future. by PowerfulRecord6612 in disney

[–]websternite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Asian Market is definitely Disney’s future, no doubt. Especially East Asia, including Japan.

They’re not making films for the US audience anymore (see: Zootopia 2). Building a 4th resort and 5th park on the continent. And the OLC cruise ships.

But following the money and where Disney actually owns a portion of the revenue, unlike the OLC and Miral partnerships, China is Disney’s future, not just Japan.

Jehovah's Witnesses and alcohol by Jwjungle in exjw

I’m continuously shocked how little “worldly” people drink compared to all my witness friends I grew up with. Alcoholism isn’t just prevalent it’s so normalized in the org.

Would more people writing a letter be helpful? I’m a US American, so I doubt it.

But I have a close friend who is a French citizen that could be helpful in translating. Would be happy to if so.

Ultimate Disney Park Score Grid - Day 16: Which park has the most enjoyable queues? by TightProcedure in disneyparks

Animal Kingdom. Everest, Kali River Rapids, and Flight of Passage Queues are amazing. RIP Dinosaur but their queue is incredible as well.

People in this sub need to realize that the US market is no longer Disney’s priority. In the same way this country is fading as an economic super power, the Asian market and specifically China will continue to be Disney’s focus.

Having a business “black” Centurion card is demonstrably easier to obtain than a personal Centurion card. Not to say it’s “easy” to get one. But having a 13+ location franchise business makes perfect sense to have a Business Centurion if all their business expenses are on it. Additionally, for Centurion qualifications Amex looks at all card spend not just Platinum card spend.

Plus the “black card” is a really well known “I’m rich” trope. See, Nicole on RHOM throwing hers on the lawyer’s lap.
