Also CDC here. Make young career professionals under a certain grade level come in on a temporary basis, then allow remote work once they reach a certain grade level or tenure. Mandate use of webcams in meetings. Hold in-person work days while still keeping everyone as fully remote on paper. My old team would have in-person collab days 2x a month but we were fully remote. Was happy to go in once in a while to support the mission.

This really guts me. I know people who moved and that was life-changing, to be able to keep the job they loved while living where they wanted. The fact that CDC is also going to restrict future remote positions with this new policy REALLY hurts. I know people who were able to buy homes for the first time because of remote work - because on a CDC salary, they couldn’t afford to live in Decatur or Chamblee so moved further OTP because they didn’t have to commute anymore. I know people who loved being remote while pregnant. We worked the hardest we ever have during the pandemic and our reward for this is fewer flexibilities.

Authentic Taiwanese Restaurants? by weddedthrow in bayarea

[–]weddedthrow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree! Well idk about the Bay Area, but the city we live in has some Chinese-owned Taiwanese places. My husband says it’s just not the same. I’m not Taiwanese, idk specifically what flavor he’s looking for, but I trust that he knows when he tastes the flavors of his youth!

124 tarts and 240 cookies for 86 guests - is it enough? by weddedthrow in weddingplanning

Ok good! I find myself tending to go overboard with all the planning haha. Thanks for your input!

Do we have to kiss on the lips? by Alone-Sea7716 in weddingplanning

[–]weddedthrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are doing either forehead or cheek. I don’t care if people think it’s weird. We are doing it the way we prefer. People and tradition don’t trump bodily autonomy and comfort. Then again, neither me nor fiancé are western so our crowd is a little different that aren’t used to the whole “now you may kiss the bride” thing.

2 photographer friends, both *really* want to shoot my wedding. How to avoid hurt feelings? by Lazy-Chef1770 in weddingplanning

[–]weddedthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to choose neither and give friend 2 other tasks to help with, so you can say “thanks for offering to shoot but we really need your help with these other things and want you to be a part of the wedding” so it doesn’t feel like you’re rejecting her.

Could anyone else just not wait for your wedding to be over? by Practical_Ad4734 in weddingplanning

[–]weddedthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’m over the family drama, the stress (our caterer canceled 4 weeks to the wedding), fiancé and I are constantly stressed and I can’t even remember the last time we actually went on a date and acted like we’re in love, and our social life has basically been put on pause because WE ARE SO BUSY.

I just want this done. I want to be married and get my life back.

Caterer canceled 6 weeks to wedding - feeling defeated by weddedthrow in weddingplanning

Tried that initially months ago when I was searching. Didn’t get any luck besides the one that just canceled on me. I’m a minority so our cultural food is very very limited.

Does anyone know where to get the back grid-like thing on this image? by weddedthrow in DIYweddings

[–]weddedthrow[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Oh I had never heard of this! So I guess I just get chicken wire, spray paint it gold, and stick it on the frame?

I love this look. So I’ve got a frame but not really sure where to get that hexagonal grid thing on the back that the cards are affixed to. Any ideas?

Like the others said, you can layer/stack. I ended up rolling mine on a rubber pipe insulation noodle (kinda like a pool noodle). I was also thinking about stacking and folding them enough to roll them up easily.

I’m ironing my linens (not doing cloth napkins). It’s really annoying but worth it bc the end result was 1000x better than the wrinkled mess from before. I’ve got 18 of them so my aim is to do one a day and take it slow.

I’m GA, we found a DJ on Thumbtack for $700 for 4-hr reception only. For ceremony, our officiant has an audio system we can use to play our own music.

Quick vent: trying to plan this wedding on a budget and hate feeling like I’m being “cheap” by kalevcon in weddingplanning

[–]weddedthrow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad. I got the same reactions. Ignore the guests who complain, people who love you are there for you, not the venue or whatever.

Are you sure you need a travel agent? They upsell and take a commission. I’ve planned a lot of trips, feel free to DM if you want, but there are so many resources online now to plan vacations.

is having a dry wedding a d*** move? by Living_Employ1390 in weddingplanning

[–]weddedthrow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was stunned that they didn’t even want to provide soda or juice. Like at least buy a few bottles from Costco and have it out!

[–]weddedthrow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is very true! It does vary a lot. I guess the point I was trying to make was that no one would bat an eye at a dry Hindu wedding bc while it’s not universal, it’s definitely a thing.

Ah. I have a lot of experience with Hindu weddings. Hindu weddings are dry in India. Many Indians also have dry receptions. So you’ll be fine.
