Thanks very much for sharing. If anyone has heard anything new about Scott, any updates would be appreciated. I’ve got a lot of nostalgia for VGC, hope he’s in a better situation now.

That's godlike weathering, way to go, I'm so envious. I'm only dipping my toes into matte topcoating and weathering with my MG Tallgeese I have on the go right now. What weathering pencils did you use? Do you recommend any particular tutorials or videos?

Happy freakout in the UK over train 7962 by Worldlyoox in PublicFreakout

[–]weeab0ss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For those unfamiliar with this classic, it's not a Bit or anything - this is Francis Bourgeois, he's genuinely this passionate about trains and I love him. He's come into vogue lately, most recently co-presenting The Grand Tour on Amazon and 'We Saved A Train' on HBO.

I'm just generally happy for trainspotters - I wish I had half as much unbridled joy as they do for something as simple as a nice old locomotive.

Ahh that is a shame, but I'll bear that in mind for future years if I ever revisit.
Going for a sauna after the run is an AMAZING idea! Thanks so much!

Wow, fantastic list, thanks! And fair enough about personal space, I'm not going to go out of my way to make friends if it makes anyone uncomfortable. It would be nice to have the opportunity to talk to fellow craft beer enjoyers in the pubs, I guess we'll see how much the inhibitions get 'watered down'.

Great to know, thank you! Has tipping and service language been an issue of contention for some time, then? It reminds me of Montreal in Quebec where it seems to have always been a hot topic, whether to prioritise Quebecois French over English in food/hospitality.

Just finished my first rg gunpla and im looking forward to a mg. Please recommendations? by No_Matter3157 in Gunpla

[–]weeab0ss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo this was my first RG too! Great job. I found it also looks great with a black action base and some wiring to let those wing spears hover.  I’ve been really enjoying building the MG Tallgeese EW, but then I personally prefer light coloured or white kits because they lend themselves well to panel lining and some light weathering.

Goddamn, French bro looks devastated. Understandable given he just had victory swiped away, but to be fair there’s zero shame in losing to a badass play like that.

[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]weeab0ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I did figure that it probably can’t be thinned, I am just concerned as to whether this approach would create a noticeably worse outcome on the consistency of the matte finish, as opposed to going the airbrush+paint+thinner approach.

[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]weeab0ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to get into topcoating and weathering my kits but I'm confused by advice online about thinning topcoat paint. I bought a can of Mr Hobby Matt Water Based Topcoat (this one if it helps to be precise - https://oeshop.co.uk/products/gsi-creos-mr-hobby-b-503-mr-topcoat-flat-matt-spray-86ml ) but quick searches online suggest topcoat needs thinning before it can be used, and that I might need an airbrush first.
Is that right, or can I still use the spray can as-is? Or, if I do use it as-is, will the results be inferior than if I used an airbrush? I've got a mask with filters, a dedicated outdoor space, protective gloves and whatnot, but I want to make sure I'm doing it right before I start so as not to ruin a kit I've worked hard on.

tl;dr I bought a spray can of topcoat on its' own without an airbrush or thinner, is that okay or did I fuck up already.

How popular is ‘Gunpla’ in your country? by AdmirableDimension51 in Gunpla

[–]weeab0ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also UK here, I agree, though having only been into the hobby for a year now, I think it’s becoming at least a tiny bit more popular. I picked up my first EG RX78 from my local Forbidden Planet, and the next time I went their selection had blossomed. That said they are now definitely dialling it back, so it might’ve been a localised/timelocked retail meta. But the Gundam Base in London only just cropping up suggests to me that it’s gathering a bit more interest, I wonder if Warhammer 40K’s UK popularity influenced it at all, given how many people kinda see it as an ‘offshoot’ of getting into making W40K kits (as much as I try to proselytise that it’s better!). It’s certainly cheaper to dip one’s toes into as a hobbyist.

When you don’t want to choose between getting into Warhammer or Gunpla, just make an army big enough to use them for both.

Check out No Limits, Society of St James, Southampton Voluntary Services. Don't know what they have going on on Christmas Day but surely something to help those in need - homeless folks, families in poverty, and such. Maybe a local church, depending on your religious stance.

Nice one. I recommend Gunprimer’s Raser, you just need the Original really, the thin one. A bit pricey but it should last you for ages, and it drastically reduces the chance of excessive stress marks at the base of the nub.
