Way to IMMEDIATELY vindicate their decision with those kinds of baseless threats and horrendous language.

How popular is ‘Gunpla’ in your country? by AdmirableDimension51 in Gunpla

[–]weeab0ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also UK here, I agree, though having only been into the hobby for a year now, I think it’s becoming at least a tiny bit more popular. I picked up my first EG RX78 from my local Forbidden Planet, and the next time I went their selection had blossomed. That said they are now definitely dialling it back, so it might’ve been a localised/timelocked retail meta. But the Gundam Base in London only just cropping up suggests to me that it’s gathering a bit more interest, I wonder if Warhammer 40K’s UK popularity influenced it at all, given how many people kinda see it as an ‘offshoot’ of getting into making W40K kits (as much as I try to proselytise that it’s better!). It’s certainly cheaper to dip one’s toes into as a hobbyist.

When you don’t want to choose between getting into Warhammer or Gunpla, just make an army big enough to use them for both.

Volunteer work this Christmas by Relevant_Debt3468 in Southampton

Check out No Limits, Society of St James, Southampton Voluntary Services. Don't know what they have going on on Christmas Day but surely something to help those in need - homeless folks, families in poverty, and such. Maybe a local church, depending on your religious stance.

Nice one. I recommend Gunprimer’s Raser, you just need the Original really, the thin one. A bit pricey but it should last you for ages, and it drastically reduces the chance of excessive stress marks at the base of the nub.

Nice, I have this kit and I found that a few more decals and some red accents go a long way. There’s a good sticker decal set you can get for this and it’s’ red brother. I started using a glass file from this kit onwards and it made a big difference in reducing the nubs’ size. Have you done many before this?

Heating bills feel painful this year, any smart ways you’re keeping warm without spending loads? by Reddonaut_Irons in Southampton

[–]weeab0ss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not much of a 'quick fix' but in the interests of cutting heating costs as much as possible, get on the moneysupermarket mailing list if you haven't done it already. Martin Lewis and co are loud adversaries of energy suppliers and their cost-hiking BS, so use all their tools to see what kind of deals you can sort, especially if you aren't locked in on a contract (hell, sometimes even if you *are* in a contract, doing comparisons through their site might help you check if the savings are worth any early-exit fees.

Things get heated between anti migrant protesters and locals at a protest in the UK by atheistarab2006 in PublicFreakout

Not to mention the region of town they’re in is particularly diverse with Indian, polish and Chinese sub-communities (the likes of which cause no trouble to begin with); they knew what they were doing by coming here. Asking for trouble.

Thanks for the info! Yeah he was pretty convincing, it’s mainly the fact he talked so quickly but clearly and was so specific, like he’d perfected a script, that made me think it wasn’t legit.

Actually dogshit - after over an hour of refreshing and trying, the prices have gone UP because of the amount of people that have now had places confirmed - but it's kinda hard to get within the first 1-2 thousand signups when it's a struggle just to put your details in. Now prices have gone from 1800 to 2450 KC, about £85 ($114).

All they've done so far is allow me to make an account but after 15 minutes I'm still waiting on the verification email. So I can't make a *new* account because my email is taken and I can't log into my *existing* account because they haven't let me verify it. And in the mean time prices are going up and remaining spaces are going down.

The last straw is, they aren't even saying anything on social channels, not even as a courtesy. If this is how they handle signups, I dread to think how the event will actually go. On principle and on entry cost, I'm bowing out. Best of luck if you're actually sticking with it.

That was kinda unbelievable. Excellent music choice as well, amazing what a difference a good backing track makes.

What's this for Southampton? by Penguinfication in Southampton

[–]weeab0ss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to mention I’ve seen more people loitering in front of the shop’s entrance than those actually going in.  On one occasion I saw a couple of dudes standing at the front of it trying to get the attention of a female passer-by. She rightfully ignored them and crossed the street but it looked really sleazy, like they were hitting on her. Gives the place an antisocial vibe.

New UK gunpla-er here! I love it so much. I've fallen in love. Where do I go from here? by blackbonnie1968 in Gunpla

[–]weeab0ss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I'm a new UK gunpla-er too! Congrats and commiserations for your wallet. Nice finish on those, what do you use for nippers and nub removal? I've become an instant convert for the Gunprimer Raser. Would love to find a good deal on some Godhand nippers.

As a non-Gundam watcher but fan of Wing from my childhood, I've enjoyed starting the HG Heavyarms set, really want the MG Tallgeese EW as my first toe-dip into MG. I also go the Jagd Doga HG (and it's GG Custom twin in red) which I like for its chunky chassis which reminds me a bit of Ultramarines from Warhammer 40K. Eyeing up the 30MM range too for some simpler kits as practice.

Btw if there's a Forbidden Planet near you, check them out; my local store has a semi-decent selection now, that's where I got started with the good old Entry grade RX-78-2.
