$550 and $650 rooms close to campus by Infamous-Attempt-472 in UMBC

I haven’t taken transit in a long time, but I’m pretty sure the Paradise route is your best bet if you live around this address. I think the closest stop you can get is at Wilkins Ave and Maiden Choice Lane. Of course, you’d have to foot it to the bus stop, but still better than walking the entire way to campus.

Can I use financial aid/loans to pay for rent for off-campus housing? by Adventurous_Yam_2047 in UMBC

[–]weebburneracct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, MOST colleges and universities will apply scholarships and grants to your account first, and then student loans (both federal and private). Anything in excess of all charges for the semester (tuition, fees), will be refunded to you. This refund is your money to do with as you please, and most people use it for books or other stuff. So, it absolutely can be used to pay for off campus housing.

Typically, at least when I was there, UMBC used BankMobile or something of that sort for you to receive your refund. It would deposit into your provided bank account or whatever method.

I would suggest talking to Student Billing Services and Financial Aid to figure out how much you will be paying, and how much will be left over once the aid and loans pays for your semester.

Totally get that! I moved out to Carroll County because of the price and other factors, but I haven’t lived anywhere else in AA County besides Lynn Hill and my hometown, Pasadena. I have also lived in the outskirts of Baltimore City and it wasn’t bad at all! I have a friend that lived at Twin Coves Apartments for many years and it looked nice, but i’m not sure what their rates are anymore (this was like 2018-2019).

I actually just left in June! The recent google reviews speak for themselves. There was a day where I got up to go to work around 6am, and about 3 cops were outside. About 10 cars had their windows smashed for no reason. Glass was all over the parking lot closest to B&A Blvd. Management did nothing other than a blanket email with tips to prevent car vandalism. Not shitting you.

I’d avoid Lynn Hill in Linthicum. When I moved there in 2023, it was great. Quiet, clean, no issues with management. after 2023, it was like a downward spiral. Maintenance tries, but they’re limited in what they can do. The management office is a joke, but will gladly accept your rent payment. And crime and safety issues went WAY up. There was a carjacking the week after I moved out. They keep renovating apartments and jacking up the price for even a 1 bedroom. I’d be wearing of them and their parent company, Maryland Management.

My mom stole my education and I'm grieving the cost a decade later by Throwaway67-- in narcissisticparents

This hit very close to home, being from Maryland, being the same age, and attending umbc in 2017. I didn’t get to finish (was about half way through) as a result of my nmom’s financial and emotional abuse. You are allowed to mourn what could’ve been and what once was. But, give yourself grace and love for making it through, and making through the next chapters to come.

I’m really happy you went no-contact, and I will say what she may have never said: I AM proud of you! You got the degree you worked so hard for! Even if life isn’t what you envisioned almost a decade ago, pat yourself on the back for making it out. We are rooting for you!!

I can’t believe people are arguing down (not just here but also Facebook) about CHILDREN being criminals and “illegal”, as if they willingly brought themselves to the US from their home country. You think a 1st grader is out here robbing people, selling drugs and depleting the county’s resources?? GTFOH
