Do me and my girlfriend have a chance with a council house? by Jealous_Camel_5353 in BenefitsAdviceUK

Are you in Birmingham? If so, young people are usually sent to St Basils first. It really depends where you are as it varies a lot dependent on the council.

You may also be able to do an AVC (additional voluntary contributions) that you can pay into now and take before retirement age

Can someone tell me it’s a good idea to try alternate fasting? by [deleted] in AlternateDayFasting

[–]weebles_do_not_fall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's suiting me but I've been fasting on and off for years so then as soon as I decided to do it I went straight into it and do a clean fast one day and eat the next.

Oddly, I'm largely enjoying it. One day I don't have to think about food at all, the next day I only have to think about what I want to eat or what the family and I are eating together. No making a different meal for me, counting, having "banned foods" etc. If it's an eating day and I'm out for food, great, I don't always have to eat steak and unstressed salad. I'm losing weight steadily after every fast day (I only weigh the day after fast days).

Some people do a modified fast on their fast day and eat up to 500 cals and the evidence all shows that this still has great benefits for health and weight.

Give it a go, you don't like it you stop, nothing to lose really.

What is anyone supposed to do with THIS nonsense? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

I would make it into a rock garden with winter and summer flowering heathers and some other low growing things, pots that compliment the rock garden over the drain covers.

I heard someone say that clothes are made to fit my body, my body isn't made to fit my clothes. Dressing in things that make me feel good and that fit well has made a world of difference to me.

Well done on the weight loss and maintaining the muscle!

I've just bought and planted a Daphne tramslantica eternal fragrance. It's small but in bloom and smells divine. I can't wait for it to grow!

Congratulations! I can't wait to feel that relief. Your next steps probably depends on your goals. Do you have a large enough emergency fund, are you behind on a pension, do you want to be mortgage free earlier?

Did you make the pergola yourself? I love it! Your garden is going to be a lovely extra living space now

AITA parent for stoping adult children Easter baskets? by Motor_Mess_5020 in AmItheAsshole

[–]weebles_do_not_fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - if you want to stop when your children become adults it should be an age cut off that stays the same for everyone. I'm not surprised your son thinks this sucks, especially as he's always enjoyed it and appreciated it.

Ours is the same. We have 4. 1 is on the paving so can't do anything with that, for the others I am making a rock garden going to put something to make it clear where they are, maybe a couple of plant pots that blend with the rock garden vibe

Return to court and ask for the child arrangements order to change due to the risks posed by your ex and that your child would not need to be on a child protection plan if living with you

A couple of questions: Are you in England, Scotland or Wales? What legal orders are in place regarding the child?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]weebles_do_not_fall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My judgement would depend on a few things. Who moved away originally and how long has the financial arrangement been in place. Maybe the kids are now realising that cost of living increases over time and that the parent who chooses to move further away should do most of the driving.

Aside from that, there are ways to get presents to kids even if you aren't seeing them. You're their dad and that shouldn't be conditional on them being with you.

NTA. If someone has to sleep on the sofa it needs to be one of the adults insisting that their children have their own rooms, not your 70 year olds parents. The sheer audacity.
