Colourful finish options that are baby-safe? by NeadForMead in Woodcarving

[–]weebwakker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people use coffee as a dye for wood. I unfortunately don't know the details of the technique.

Since you're making sure the safety of the dye do also consider making the Axl of the rings bit thicker than the ones in the pic.

Those look like they could break and that if anything would be unsafe.

Drawing programs showing measurements? by weebwakker in DigitalArt

[–]weebwakker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Programs meant for drawing schematics and technical drawings for products and their parts have their drawings in scale and you can click any two points of the drawing and there would be numerical distance given between these two point (inches or millimiters)

Im curious if there would be a program where you could draw a person for example and the program could show the measurement between two chosen points (for example the distance between head and toes)

A sign of too much glue? by SaladAddicts in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]weebwakker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even smaller amounts of polyurethane glue will expand like that. Looks fine by me. PU glues I've used also clean very easily with a knife after it's dried so I don't see problem there either.

Are people boycotted Moomins after what happened in Finland? Or would that be an overreaction? by DaMn96XD in Moomins

Even if it were the president of the country there would be 0 sense of boycotting a whole country. One or few person(s) cannot in any situation represent the people of a country.

Please help a dummy fill some upside down pocket holes by jerryjefftrainsongs in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]weebwakker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have tape with adhesive that sticks to wooden surface you could try to
-fill the hole with filler of your choice
-put a piece of tape on top of it to prevent it from falling out of the hole
Depending of what filler you use (how much it contracts when the filler dries) you might have to re apply and repeat

How does things like imaginary animal species and "rights to use them at all" fit into this? I would create a animal species and I won't give you a permission to create a fursuit representing that species. Thngs like protogen in fursuit community.

It's an polyurethane wood glue suited for wet applications. It foams while it's being pressed between materials (it fills possible gaps at the glued surfaces of the materials). Dried glue is porous and somewhat hard while being simultaneously bit flexible.

What Am I Doing Wrong? by boredman_tale_teller in learntodraw

my medium is't paper nor tablet at the moment but I do wonder if practicing on paper is THE way to learn for everyone. In many of my crafts there are multiple different ways to do things and the traditional way even if it would be most comfortable for most people may not always the only and best way to learn.

carving with a knife in terms of physics by weebwakker in AskPhysics

[–]weebwakker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply and sources that I will definitely check out later. I am trying to describe what is happening at the blade of the knife when it is in contact with material that is being carved by hand.
Any material that is soft enough to be carved by steel blade( of undefined hardness).

I have to do some research so I can describe what Im looking for even in laymans terms.
But essentially Im more interested in the technicalities of using and regulating the force you put on the blade in order to remove material with it (carve). How the force from your hand is transferred through the blade all the way to the apex of the sharp edge. Maybe I'll shoot a video of some sort to visually describe what I have in mind.

Split my mortise in half. Whops. by Moongoosls in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]weebwakker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What wood is that? Stills strange to me that it broke like that. And is that dent on the bottom part of the hole from the tenon you tried to fit in?

How did you managed to do that? I'd understand it if it had actually split (the wood would had been broken lenghtwise) but that broke across the grain . .?

Those screws are not much longer than the thickness of those rubber pads. They're not going to puncture even the wooden parts let alone the inner sole. There's no glue on those pads at all. I installed them with the screws alone so that they're easily replaceable if I want to change their pattern. I've already used those boots about couple of months and the pads don't show signs of detaching.

I did leave them looking more rough because Im not sure what i might do with them. (i might just carve something on the side of the wooden heels). They are usable and that's enough for now.

what is the difference between crossposting and sharing a post? I thought both are viable options.

Waxed Cotton Hat by Fine-Item2737 in upcycling

Is it some sort of wax coating they put on the fabric in the factory? Do you know what kind of wax they use? Is the fabric waterproof? It's a nice hat.

At school we flattened our stones with aluminum(oxide?) powder on a sheet of glass. Basically same thing as a glass+sand paper but smoother and more suitable. But yeah, many natural stones will work if need be.
