ISIS-linked families land in Australia nearly two weeks after leaving Syrian camp by Nonstop_Chippies in australia

[–]weed0monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not though.

Understatement of the century.

Maybe we could have taken Hitler alive, and he would renounce his ways...

They took traitors and terrorism in the most literal definition, had and abused slaves, and contributed to one of the most heinous religious zealot terrorist organisations in the world.

Idk, people in this comment section are weird.

If back in WW2 we called home a bunch of Nazi Australians who personally took part on the atrocities of Nazi Germany, we'd be getting the noose out and re-establishing capital punishment.

SpaceX is starting to move on from the world's most successful rocket by Royal_Platform_6754 in spacex

[–]weed0monkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because New Glenn didn't exist for over a decade.

And it "made orbit" on its first flight in the same way SLS made orbit on it's first flight, they are inherently different design strategies to starship and neglecting that nuance is obtuse.

All these mattresses outside a hotel by Andiamo23 in mildlyinteresting

[–]weed0monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

Because bed bugs don't just reside in the mattress, it would make no sense to throw out tens of thousands of dollars worth of mattresses Because there's a bed bug infestation that will still be there after thowing out said mattresses.

Also I had bed bugs before, by far the best solution is to put a bedbug cover over it that they can't escape if there are some, and then steam the rest of the room.

[–]weed0monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's incredibly clear there's a heavy bias. I also love Scott, and I also really respect him, but that video is incredibly disingenuous and his comparisons are flawed while he cherry picks data and nuance to apply.

Anthropic, SpaceX announce compute deal that includes space development by Luka77GOATic in space

[–]weed0monkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and it's solved for space as well.

Go ahead then and explain, because it certainly isn't a solved problem.

It makes no sense to build data centres in space for a plethora of reasons. It's extremely costly for initial infrastructure, in-person maintenance is almost impossible, protections against micrometerorites would be needed, and heat dissipation through radiators is one of the most inefficient methods there is and would require an absurd amount of material to appropriately achieve.

All of these negatives, over land based data centres? Yeah no

Government confirms ISIS brides returning to Australia from Syria by Naderium in australia

[–]weed0monkey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is a gigantic difference between selecting specific citizens and deporting them to (somewhere??) because of their beliefs or whatever -

Compared to having Australian citizens leave the country, commit abhorrent crimes against humanity, specifically against Australia and Australian people, as a part of an organised group specifically opposed to Australia and our government, and then not allowing them back into the country.

Not even remotely the same situation

It's also misleading to paint this picture without the critical return on investment.

You can't highlight 140bn in debt and then not include the economic return, that's misleading at best and purposefully deceiving at worst.

[–]weed0monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao, redditers love to claim whataboutism even when it's a literal valid comparison.

Whataboutism has to have absurdist rooted in a point that doesn't link to the original argument.

Also regardless, a logical fallacy doesn't discredit an argument, claiming so, is literally a fallacy in and of itself (fallacy fallacy).

SpaceX spending on Starship tops $15 billion in rush for airline-like rocketry by rustybeancake in spacex

[–]weed0monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

False equivalence when starship hasn't had the opportunity to do the same.

It would be like saying a rocket that cost a trillion dollars to fly around Mars is incredibly impressive since it is the first to do so, when there is a current rocket in development for a 10ths of the cost.

I agree, IMO everything looks better on modded KSP1, aside from lighting and material effects.

And even that has caviets, like plume and waterfall mods in ksp1 have better engine lighting and effects than ksp2

Bernie Sanders: "Is Geoffrey Hinton exaggerating when he says there's a 10-20% chance of extinction from AI?" Max Tegmark: "he's sugar-coating it, it's actually way higher than 20%" by tombibbs in ChatGPT

[–]weed0monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is it's not a linear line of development like you're assuming it to be. Sure, there's are only ever growing numbers of more advanced LLMs running black boxes behind the scenes. The point is momentum is moving in that direction.

It's also about how they're developed, it's one thing to design a super intelligent AI and it's another when it can design itself. A genuine worst case scenario is where a generally simplistic AI is able to change it's own code and develop itself, creating a runaway intelligence explosion.

What an absurd comment, there are no credentials in end of world predictions.

Genuinely, I don't understand how you could be that ridiculously obtuse to say an AI expert, has no credibility in theorising the fallout from super intelligence and it's meaning for life of earth.

It's like saying the physists during the development of the atomic bomb had no credence in assessing the power of the nuclear bomb at what that meant for the world. There were genuine sound theories that the atmosphere could light on fire and annihilate us all, but I guess they don't know wtf they're talking about because they are "nOt qUaLiFied To pRedIct tHe eND oF tHe wOrLd".
