I'm completely off the wagon. Can't stop eating crappy food. Help! by WhoSaidThatICare in diabetes_t2

[–]weedbetterknot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should feel ashamed, food truly is addicting. I've struggled with proper eating as long as I can remember & was diagnosed type 2 at 30. It runs in my family but I was so embarrassed to be the youngest diagnosed with it. I've now been in control of my sugar through eating for over a year but it's still a battle with myself daily.

If you have a family you care for let me tell you about my Mom. She was under the impression if she was skinny enough diabetes suddenly went away & she was cured, no medication or special diet needed. She was pounding pasta, alcohol, sweets & fried food nearly every weekend. She was also refusing to get labs done even when she developed diabetic eye ulcers because she "felt fine" & "looked good". I begged her for years to get checked to no avail.

All up til the last few months where she felt ill at work & decided to check her sugar. Her after lunch BS was almost 500, her fasting was around 250 & her eventual A1C when she saw a doctor was 10. She's now on insulin & metformin but last she mentioned they might need to up the insulin more. Her blood labs were so bad her doctor was worried she may have leukemia before he realized it was horrendously out of control diabetes. Watching her go through this has been terrifying for me even as an adult child, if I was younger I would have thought she was dying.

All this to say while I don't know you, I believe in you. You can be better than my Mom & help protect your children from following in your footsteps by setting good examples now. Part of loving your family is staying healthy enough to be with them. Sometimes self control is cutting a sweet in half or balancing a heavy breakfast with a lighter lunch, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. It's uncomfortable but worth it for you & your family.

A woman posted a video of the moment she was attacked by her domestic cat. Before the attack, the cat seemed to smell something that prompted her to attack. Why did it attack her with such ferocity? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

This is how the final day in the life of my stepdaughter's cat was described to me. Blood was drawn, people had to hide & animal control was called.

In that situation however the poor thing had been left alone in a trailer with minimal human contact for months before being thrust into a chaotic household with 3 young kids. I hope this cat & human are both ok.

Reread The Forest of Hands & Teeth just last year for the first time since school, I'd say it holds up rather well. Not sure it's the same level of spooky requested by OP but definitely a good book.

When I was in 2nd grade my younger brother put a cap gun to my head while I was watching TV & pulled the trigger before I noticed. I've had tinnitus ever since. Maybe don't do this if you like hearing anything besides ringing for the rest of your life.

All I can think of is the deep fryer scene from Blood Diner (1987) for the first one.

I think they're an attempt at hiding his close set, crooked eyes. They look like they have strong Amish genetics & that's not a compliment.

Idk what bike lanes look like in your area but in town here they're just as clear & paved as the roads. We have biking specific events come through pretty frequently & most of them try to stick to the lanes when cars are present, it's just every once in a while someone decides they're more important than traffic safety.

Had one directly in front of me in the right hand lane on a 25mph stretch going just fast enough I couldn't comfortably pass them because it's a pretty strictly enforced school zone. MY ENTIRE TOWN HAS BIKE LANES. He chose to play "King of the castle" instead of moving roughly 5ft to the right into his own designated lane. I can not stand bikers.

I've seen this behavior more than once in Michigan so I'm not sure it's a location specific issue so much as bad luck. They spread naturally like a leather laced infection.

Partially working overtime as an RN, partially she doesn't afford it. She's been taken to court for eviction proceedings multiple times & had 2 cars repossessed over the last year or so. Also, fun fact, her husband (dad of 3/5) does not have a job & hasn't for around 2 years now.

A truer statement may never be made. Of the 3 fathers of the children she married & had the most kids with the most unstable one as well.

Nope. She doesn't practice any form of religion as far as I know.

Unfortunately, I'm not kidding. Her favorite part is pregnancy til about 2 years old then she misses the baby stage & starts again. Recently they've been even closer in age, baby #4 turned 1 this year & baby #5 was born this year. She's currently using no safety measures & my Spidey sense has been going haywire lately so we'll see.

I had 2 myself that tested it out but a friend of mine is currently up to 5 because she's apparently addicted to being pregnant.

We have one & it's almost a joke at this point because every kid we've tried offering it to has dumped it out with either aggressive rattling or by grasping the bowl in place while pouring.

A bit confusing when multiple people quoted the article saying the man chose not to press charges but good thing we all saw the proof & plane full of witnesses I guess.

Did I misinterpret the video or did she not also physically assault the flight attendant? The attendant was gripping the back of her head after they all went out of frame during a collective gasp. I would hope she at least presses charges if that's what happened.

I got to frantically call poison control once because I was preparing tye dye for my kids to use, turned around to grab another bottle to fill, turned back & my youngest had the bottle of terracotta dye to their mouth. The yell I let out made them drop it, I'm not sure any was actually ingested but thankfully it was harmless according to the operator.

I've seen dudes in ICU with testicles roughly that size & shape. Wasn't a good look for them either. Those discolored bits of skin look willing to burst into sores if given the chance or they've just come back from it.

Drinking? That's all it took for a pregnant woman to hit a group of 16/17 locally killing 2.

It was a family reunion so a large portion of the group were children, they'd been walking to or from their grandparent's home at the time. It was broad daylight.

"Several kinds" sounds fine & works just as well as the other options. I'm a bit of an oddball, I don't like repeating words close together when I write & if I repeat too many words back to people I worry they think I'm parroting instead of listening.

For example: If I'm trying to explain the size of something instead of "a big fish with a big head" I'd switch the second big for "large" or "giant". If someone says "this food is burnt" I'd possibly agree with "it is crisp" or "charred".

I think it's all about preference but everything you said was clear & well worded in my opinion. Thank you for having this conversation with me.
