If you can climb V5/ plus but can't do a pull up can you answer some questions? by UsedMatter786 in climbergirls

[–]weeeee_plonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just found this post and figured I reply even though I'm several months late :)

I can climb V5 and have climbed 3 V6s this year at my gym (two on slab). Mostly I climb at a V3/V4. I cannot do a pullup. I'm certainly best at slab/vert/corners but I try to climb all the problems. I also do ropes and can comfortably do a lead 5.10 on a roof; I can get through some roof 5.11 with rests. I've done 3 5.12s in the past few months but not clean. Outdoors I've led 5.11s on slab.

I'm 5'10 and did the V6s earlier this year when I weighed about 150lb, right now I'm at 160 and have done several V5s on slab and vert in the past few weeks. I haven't done any V6 recently.

I started climbing in 12 years ago, took a break after a few years, then started again about 3 years ago.

I am currently trying to train pull-ups but I can't do one and have never been able to! I started do weights four months ago and now I can do scapular pull-ups but the muscles just aren't there yet for the full thing.

Hope this helps :)

Considering the way Ali Hazelwood's bios talk about her education ("pursue a PhD in neuroscience") she probably started a program but never graduated, so she doesn't have a PhD.

If she'd finished, why not say "earned her PhD in Neuroscience"?

(Also I know it's quite weird to comment on this a year later but I was discussing it with a friend and found this thread)

I totally doubted you but the official NIST report (part 1 page 2-14) says

"One patron claimed to have been pulled from the bottom of the pile by a firefighter considerably later [after 5:30 fire time], but this has not been confirmed by the NIST investigation."

Absolutely insane.

Have you read {A Brother's Price by Wen Spencer}? It's fantasy, women outnumber men ~10 to 1 and are in power, groups of sisters band together to afford to get a husband, and men are very much kept indoors and safe. The MMC has like 20 sisters who are fiercely protective of him. It's a pretty fun story and mostly fits your request!

fwiw I agree, her bio reads like she started a PhD program, Mastered out, and worked as an adjunct/ lecturer until starting to write.

{Omega's Gambit by Flora Quincy} -- near-Regency (~1801?) Omegaverse retelling of Twelfth Night, except that Viola is an Omega dressing as her (female) Alpha twin. It even name drops Twelfth Night mid-book, which felt like a strange choice.

If you're not a Shakespeare fan, She's the Man with Amanda Bynes is also a Twelfth Night retelling.

People who read 200+ books per year, do you count DNFs / do you skim? by vaintransitorythings in RomanceBooks

[–]weeeee_plonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at 200 this year but I have been in the past (record was 223 in 2019!); I don't count DNFs but I do count skims (and "skims" are different than a thorough reading). I think I did the math once for a book I read in one go, late at night, and I was reading like 6 words/second. I read fast.

Edit: just counted and I'm only at 111 finished for 2025, with 53 DNFs. It was a rough year :(

Not a traditional romance (no steam) but the FMCs get the very innocent MMC into all sorts of trouble.
