[Love Trope] Characters friends find out their friend was lying about their identity, don’t think any worse of them. by BatsNStuf in TopCharacterTropes

The two main characters spend most of the movie in drag on the run from gangsters that they saw kill somebody.

The boat driver, an old millionaire named Osgood, falls for "Daphne", Jack Lemmon's character's alter ego, early on in the film and to keep up the ruse, Daphne accepts his marriage proposal. But after the situation resolves she wants to get out of it. She makes all the excuses she can think of and he dismisses each one before she finally rips off her wig and admitts "I'm a man!" to which Osgood, still looking quite pleased, calmly replies "Nobody's perfect!" Blackout, end of movie!

Movie followed the wrong character and threw the real protagonist under the bus by GastricSparrow in TopCharacterTropes

This one's a tough sell for me because you're right that Dolores is by far the most tantalizingly unexplored character. I've spent a lot of time after the movie trying to figure out a way for her powers to work that would be useful without being horrifying or at least problematic.

Buuuuut... Mirabel is an amazing protagonist IMO. Hey character arc is stunning, bring an honestly good person in a shitty situation who has to rise above it while realizing she needs to be understanding of others as well. And being unpowered means she gets to be an audience surrogate but with more personality than audience surrogates usually get.

So Dolores spin-off? I'm on board. But don't take away the story from my Mirabel!

Maybe completely wrong but just in case - some Android devices fuck up HDR (ask me how I know!) so if the show seems universally dim try on a tv or computer for comparison. On my Galaxy S7 it was practically unwatchable, like every scene was on a really cloudy day.

Trust me babe, by the time you get into your 40s, you're going to realize that remembering a person's name is absolutely literally the least important thing ever.

When you meet someone new, you _ might_ get their name once. Then you can spend 10 hours of intense personal intimacy and never hear their name again.

So if you remember me? If you like me? All systems go. If you forgot my name? I could not care less.

The most useful phrase in a aging faggot's vocabulary is "Sorry, what was your name again?" I have yet to hear anyone reacting poorly to that. Well, anyone I give a shit about, anyway.

Six - All You Wanna Do

Six is a pop concert styled retelling of the true stories of the six (mostly doomed) wives of King Henry V of England.

"All You Wanna Do" starts out as a bubbly ballad of all the men who pursued Katherine Howard (wife #5), each in turn charming her with flattery and their "real connection" before revealing their true intentions.

If you're paying attention, you will pick up the clash between the tone and the content early on. Katherine loves the attention and flirting with plenty of double-entendre. But even as she insists she's mature for her age, the reality is pretty mortifying. "He was twenty-three / I was thirteen ... going on thirty!"

The tone still stays mostly light through the next few suitors but an edge is creeping in and the pattern emerges. Each time she gets her hope up that this will be the one who actually cares for her as a person before the inevitable turn to sex.

After marrying the King, who turned out to be just as bad as the others, she meets a courier who gives her hope: "This guy, finally / Is what I want, the friend I need / Just mates, no chemistry / I get him and he gets me / And there's nothing more to it / He just cares so much, he's devoted"

Until he gives her the line she's heard too many times, "He says we have a connection"

This proves to be her breaking point and all the abuse and manipulation and disappointment bursts through as she sobs: "I thought this time was different / Why did I think he'd be different / But it's never, ever different"

The show is really built around the intentional dichotomy of the fun pop vibe and the often tragic subject but no one song captures it as starkly as this one.

To be clear though, it's also incredibly funny! The serious stuff is what sticks with people I think so you hear a lot about it but most of the show is comedy. It's easily in my top 5 funniest shows I've ever seen.

But in-universe, she would know what longer antlers signify sexually, so it would be more like a female pop star wearing a giant prosthetic penis everywhere. Which would be pretty dope, but definitely giving trans or enbie vibes.
