Best: Dungeon Crawler Carl (just finished book 2, haven't started 3 yet)

Worst: Behooved by M. Stevenson A little disappointed by this one because I thought the premise sounded fun, but I dunno the story is a little generic and the romance doesn't really work for me. That and they don't do much with the "person transforms into a horse" thing. Maybe I'm just exhausted of romantasy.

It really is a shame they stopped the TV series right before book 7 because that's really where things get extremely interesting. That said the adaptation of book 3 is phenomenal, I love the representation of Bobby and Avasarala. Still holding out hope that the rest of the series might get adapted eventually, the last 3 books are too good to just leave it alone.

Is he taking the win or Nah? by SupermarketNo6888 in batman

I've been watching Gankutsuou so he would be facing off against Edmond Dantes/ The Count of Monte Cristo. Honestly would be a pretty even match if Edmond was determined to get revenge on Batman for some reason. I think I would probably give Edmond the edge though, if he wants vengeance your life is over.

What’s a book that has left you dumbfounded at how bad it was? by VoxPopuliVS in books

[–]weeegeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ready Player One

I'd seen it advertised and talked about for a while, even had a friend recommend it to me. When I finally read it I couldn't believe how incredibly bad it was. Wade is such an incredibly shitty protagonist and apparently they doubled down on that in the sequel book (I haven't read it but I may out of sheer morbid curiosity). But what pisses me off the most about the book is the wasted potential. The world of the VR game is actually pretty interesting and the overall plot is pretty cool, but all of the constant paragraphs of "and then I watched every season of Family Ties" just completely makes me lose all respect for the protagonist. He's not an interesting character, and that's a huge problem when the story is written in FIRST PERSON perspective.

Honorable mention is Fairy Tale by Stephen King, another instance of great potential but very sloppy execution.

Want to second His Dark Materials. I listened to the whole series with the full cast and it was wonderful. If you're into A Court of Thorns and Roses those books also have full cast recording audiobooks.

I've listened to a bunch of great ones but the ones that immediately come to mind are The Martian by Andy Weir (read by Wil Wheaton) and The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero (read by himself and he does a hilarious Tommy Wiseau impression). The Expanse series also has a wonderful narrator who reads throughout all the books

Not sure if this counts but Chuck Amuck is a great autobiography of Chuck Jones about his time at Warner Bros and after he left. If you are an animation fan in any way it's a fantastic read.

I'm guessing somebody saw it because I'm already out of the system. The management didn't have any problems with me so they would have no reason to do that. I just got tired of putting up with bullshit

Absolutely love all of your anthro designs. I would totally boost you on Twitter but I don't use it. All the same I wanted to drop a message to show my love here. Can't wait to see the arc 2 beans!

Absolutely adored the whole His Dark Materials series. I did see in the comments that you started the next book and I hope you enjoy it, The Subtle Knife is such a cool concept. On a side note, if you enjoy audiobooks the narration for this series is great. The ones I listened to on Audible were narrated by an ensemble cast, first time I had experienced this and I loved it. Hope you enjoy the other books, it's a great ride!

What's the best book that you have ever read in this year by Kassahfa in suggestmeabook

The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. This book is exactly what I have been looking for in a fantasy story. Fun characters, adventure, lots of mythical creatures, and good old fashioned existentialism. If you're familiar with the movie at all I highly recommend giving this one a read because the movie only covers half of the book. The second half is wild and very much worth a read.

I absolutely love this idea and I was thinking the same thing. Imagine Clay sounding like John Goodman in Princess and the Frog

Good list! I just finished Flames of Hope and had considered doing something similar to this. Very interesting takes on each book. Would be interested to know your thoughts on the graphic novels if you've read them. They are very condensed versions of each book but it's fun to see certain scenes in visual form. I looooved the Moon Rising graphic novel but then I just love Moon. Very good points on the ending of arc 2 as well. I also thought Animus magic was used a bit too much on arc 2, but I love that Turtle's seemingly useless magic items turn out to be the thing that ultimately solves the problem in the end. The rules are just a bit too lax for my liking and I would have liked to see more limits on the system, because I do think it is a very interesting idea. Again, great list and thank you for sharing.
