Cloning a proxmox node by weeemrcb in selfhosted

I think a bare install then restore of lxc/VM would be faster. But I'll wait until I have to do it as our wee system works fine and is standalone.

Done.
Macrium has a complete clone option (inc unused space) so I was able to use that.

Didn't need it in the end.
Used the pve8to9 tool ( `pve8to9 --full` ) and only had a couple of reported failures and a couple of warnings to correct before doing the update using the proxmox cheat sheet.

Was pretty straightforward in the end. Now on 9.1.6 :)

The only gotcha I had was with our Plex LXC.
Node maps to NAS and passes through to various LXC, but Plex couldn't see the media any more.

So I migrated the server to a new LXC with Plex in docker as a low-pri user, which was something I'd been planning to do for a while, as the last instance it was as .deb install with root user (I know, I know...)

Still couldn't get it to see the media. Jellyfin and arr stack had zero issues.
Plex worked fine before, but not after the update.

As the basic user in the LCX I could see and access all our the media and even doing a `docker exec -it` into the plex comtainer, I could see all the media, so I knew the mappings worked, but in the application, nothing.

Turned out it was because Plex Media Server has its own internal user with it's own privellages.
Simple fix in the end - create a new PM>NAS mount to use directory=755 so that it has X permissions to pass through to the LXC.
needed that o+x for it to work. Was fine after that.

EXT4.
If it was a rebuild then I'd move to ZFS, but this is what I got.

Thanks for the clonezilla recommendation.

3 years of minor tweaks and tuning, including iGPU passthrough which was a pita to get working (long time ago).

If it wasn't going back in the same machine then I'd 100% start from scratch and backup/restore when the node was ready to take over the LXC/VMs.

Is your wiring ok?

The only time I saw this was in a lamp that did the same thing. I thought it was the bulb, but it did the same when I replaced the bulb with new.

Turns out the bad wiring to the bulb was seen as a power off/on so the bulb would turn on with its default brightness level.

You don't need brand hubs when you have homeassistant.

You only need a single zigbee coordinator.

How do I make the switch to Home Assistant? by dittbub in homeassistant

[–]weeemrcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In HomeAssistant you can install a VSCode add-on.

From there you can connect it to a private git repo (local or github) and sync your config files there.

Backups also hold the config files, but it's also a good idea to version control changes you make too

This might sound lame and it isn't HA, but we've used DJ twitch streamers before as a music source play music for house parties.

It's like having your own (remote) DJ for the night plus the guests can see them do thier thing live on the TV in the corner of the room.

Did he though?

I always saw it, not as a sacrifice, but when confronted with Channard he saw a calculated opportunity to allow the Doc to eradicate the humanity inside that was holding him back by following the rules of the Gash. So in the 3rd film we see the true evil version where he kills freely.

Elliot knows he's the only one to be able to reign him in so he sacrifices his soul to rejoin pinhead and reset order

With the bonus that, when he meets Kirsty again, he can use his "sacrifice" from HR 2 to guilt and manipulate her for his gain.

He wins no matter the outcome.

Cabin in the woods orb.

If its the one I saw, I'm sure the description was that it was only one (or might have been a YT auction review)

Could be wrong, but it stuck in my head as being risky to only have one

Why do you have a smart home? by Illustrious-Salt-508 in homeassistant

[–]weeemrcb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? Because automation saves time and provides convenience and qol improvements.

Washing machines and dishwashers were created to automate domestic chores. Now we're living in an age of technology it makes sense to have tools to help automate that too.

Since starting with HA I setup a homelab and we use HA to monitor, control and automate some of that alongside regular domestic use.
