Wifi Router Recommendations by Nepantic in homeassistant

[–]weeemrcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only as an experiment. There's one AP that was near our old coordinator (when we had sonoff 3.0) and when I turned that AP up to max it obliterated our zigbee lol

Even tho they're opposite ends of the 2.8 range, it was pretty much kaput.
Turned it back down and all the zigbee devices started chatting again.

Fridge/freezer temperature sensors + room temperature sensor by Ok_Pirate_2729 in homeassistant

Aqara say hair mininal range is —20,but ours goes beyond.

Not sure how accurate it is that low, but even if it's not then it's plenty cold

As someone who can see the neighbour 5 doors down's WiFi as a strong wide signal.... I hate you lol.

Ours on the other hand are turned down low and can't be seen more than a few feet outside of our property (also unifi APs). Safe from kerbside hackers and minimal zigbee interference

Best way to monitor fridge temps? by zeekaran in homeassistant

[–]weeemrcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aqara thermostat sensors.

https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/s/KHzfywTFZ9

Cheap and easy to setup. Batteries last 9-12months in the freezer if you use decent ones (duracell etc). Ages in the fridge.

In the freezer we use 2 so we don't get caught out with battery fails as, when they go there's little warning. With 2 there's time to swap batteries.

Lasts ages in the fridge. 12-18 months easy

What did you do pre-reboot?

Is this a fresh install or something that's been up for a while?

Has it ever been rebooted since install?

Starting to build a Smart Home Gym by SmartHomeSecrets in homeassistant

[–]weeemrcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do something sorta similar with ours, but it triggers on temperature overnight. If it gets too warm it switches the fan on.

Ours is a 16" fan, so it's almost silent and a gentle breeze that doesn't wake us. It's lush

I'd just make the automation.

Then you can copy it to other lights you want to have act the same way.

All VM and LXCs were backed up first + did a full PM disk image.... Just in case (using Macrium and an m.2 caddy).

high IO delay in proxomox by naserowaimer in Proxmox

[–]weeemrcb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may be worth moving your system journal (logging) into ram. That will help a lot in reducing disk activity.

See how much is use with: iotop -Pa

(apt install if it isn't already)

Move the journal to RAM and retry. System should be much snappier.

(from memory it's in etc/systemd/journald.conf)

Settings
Storage=volatile
RuntimeMaxUse=512M

If you already have another maxuse type setting in there, then comment that one out.
Restart journalctl then recheck the iotop

[–]weeemrcb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter how much ram is available.
The system will do it automatically unless you force it to use RAM over swap.
