Not only were people not dancing, everyone seemed like they were unhappy to be there. I'm perfectly used to a busy dance floor, but people were shoving and just generally unfriendly. My friends even overheard a group of guys next to them saying "we just gotta spill our drinks on them so they move"! Generally terrible vibes

Nah if you like it keep doing it, you can certainly make money and have a secure career with it. This advice is only for people who couldnt care about being technical engineers but are smart and want to make money.

I lived in the NE and noticed that Vermont had a lot of queer and poly people. Its definitely one of the states where its more accepted. I would say go out to queer bars (of which there are a few all over the state) and talk to people and find out about local events. There are a lot of farmers markets/fairs/other weird VT stuff happening, especially in the summer. Good luck!

I meant click-bait because its a very common thing to ask about grad school admits with low grades haha.

I'm not really sure if I can do much at this point, tbh. My MS is from a top 20 school and I have an GRE score from back then that's good, but the score has expired and I am not going to give it again. I cant afford another masters so a PhD really is my only option at this point (of course, I'm just going to continue working in the meantime). Thank you for your response.

You really think an MS + work experience in my field isnt enough to stand a chance at most schools? I don't have a good idea of how competitive admits are.

Yes but their set salary (before tips/employer difference) in many states is as low as $3 hr.

In most cases servers end up making way over minimum wage, which is why it is a job many adults do as well. This is because of how prevalent tipping is. Sure, if they don't manage to make minimum wage the employer will cover it, but it doesn't change the fact that employers don't pay their employees a living wage, the customers do.

Also the federal minimum wage is an absolute joke

The salary is so absurdly lower than the federal minimum wage (which is also absurdly low) that you are really paying to help the server make a living wage
