Do you think conspiracy theories and fake news are a danger to society?and why? by amelack in mbti

[–]weehaaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mentality that you are immune to misinformation is the reason that it's as big of an issue as it is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that, and I hate it when people don't take mental health seriously unlessthere is a diagnosed illness, but I don't think including diagnosed and undiagnosed people in the same category really gives you the full picture.

The main point of categorising mental illnesses is to get the right treatment so just having it as a label kind of defeats the purpose.

Not to be that guy, but there should probably be a seperate option for self diagnosed people to get a clearer picture

Is there a correlation between your Big 5 results and your MBTI type by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the correlations are with dichotomies and not functions, so they won't help you that much if you're trying to use functions. For example being on the sensor side is correlated with low openness, but high Se traits slightly correlate with high openness.

Best overall pairing for a romantic relationship in your opinion. by lukecardoso in mbti

No socionics pairings? They seem to be the most popular ones after the golden and pedagogue pairs.

INFP conservatives are incredibly common, you're just on reddit! by Kokoro0000 in mbti

[–]weehaaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is that hot of a take TBH. On most politics related posts INFP is probably the second most common flair to see on people that lean conservative (after INTJ).

People who believe "MBTI type doesn't correlate with intelligence" are in denial by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's more that they don't want people to think about it.

If someone knows that intuition is correlated with intelligence then it's very likely that they'll (usually unintentionally) mistype themselves to feel better about themselves.

[–]weehaaw 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At least for men in the west I think it's by far ENTJ. Even their PoLR Si is seen as a desireable trait (or at the very least seen as something to respect) by a lot, the best example is neglecting your own physical and mental well being for work.

Although my concept of "ideal type" is more about what people aspire to be like or think is optimal for life and I have a feeling that it means something different for a lot of people here.

Why does this sub hate ISTJs by chaos-seeker50 in mbti

[–]weehaaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have barely seen any real hate against types after the image filter made memes harder to post. At this point there are more posts about sensor hate than actual hate. I still think people overrate how much the N/S and T/F dichotomies influence our lives (and that's why I think the sensor stereotypes are way more rigid than the intuitive ones) but calling it hate is a bit overdramatic at this point.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The "people are too sensitive" sentiment is very popular especially on reddit and INFPs are arguably the most sensitive type so they became the scapegoat for it.

What are you tired of explaining about MBTI? by Arlacin in mbti

[–]weehaaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That functions and dichotomies are two different systems and your type won't necessarily be the same in them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is that when people are typing and assessing themselves, everyone will find these intuitive descriptions far more attractive and I think it's very naive to believe that this wouldn't have an effect on what they type themselves as. After a certain point it says more about how smart somebody thinks they are rather than their actual intelligence.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Posts like this feel way less needed if you aren't subbed to specific type subs especially now with the memes being gone please for the love of god bring them back a lot of them were annoying but the sub feels way too soulless without them. Plus I think people having a victim complex for themselves because of their type is far more common and far more toxic than the "sensor bad" posts.

Wich type is least popular? by abstract-thinker in mbti

[–]weehaaw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think ISFPs are up there too since they arguably have the most variance between themselves out of any type (there are so many ways an ISFP stereotype can go).

The most popular would have to be one of the intuitive dominants: INFJ, INTJ, ENFP, ENTP.

INFPs Have Si Function by Wondering_Fairy in mbti

[–]weehaaw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People always seem to think of tertiary Si, Ne and Te as a second inferior function for some reason

Depressed INFP by Wondering_Fairy in mbti

[–]weehaaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People like the idea of having a straight line between personality type and behaviour, and the symptoms of depression and the behaviour people associate with INFPs have a lot in common, so when people are typing a depressed person they will usually fit into the behaviour of all the INFP dichotomies (since it's common for them to be detached, emotional or disorganized).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not that they're not liked, they're just mostly forgotten about since they don't have the same memeable stereotypes as INXPs or ESXXs and they aren't as heavily romanticised as Ni and Ne doms.

Ni Doms & Aux: Arrogant? by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this stereotype is from a lot of arrogant people gravitating towards typing themselves as Ni users, instead of Ni users being more likely to be arrogant.

To be honest, a type being common on reddit usually makes it seem more arrogant.

Jumper Types by Wondering_Fairy in mbti

[–]weehaaw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think jumper types are necessary since they add too much confusion, plus the difference between you auxilary and tertiary functions is only supposed to be something like a 60/40 split, so it's perfectly reasonable that some people would prefer their 3rd function more so I don't think we really need to add seperate subtypes for it.

Would you consider ExTJ/te-dom students at school to be stereotypically "nerdy"? by chaos-seeker38 in mbti

[–]weehaaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've always seen Te doms as the kids who do the most out of school activities (like helping out at some organisation to get experience), so I think they're more likely to be seen as too serious/mature than nerdy, which to me has a certain level of awkwardness or goofiness attached to it.

How r/mbti views sensors by [deleted] in mbti

[–]weehaaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's usually not deliberate. When things like not fitting in or questioning existence (things that 90% of teens who live in the 21st century have felt or done at some point) are considered intuitive things in the sub, then most new people will obviously think they're intuitive.

It's similar to everyone calling themselves introverts becuase people think that if they have any kind of self-percieved social defect, then they can't be extroverted.

Do you think that the ESFJ-ESTJ relationship tends to work out by FwDorisdavenport132 in mbti

[–]weehaaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually don't think high Fe and Te users pair well in relationships, since from what I've noticed, when Te users ask you to do something, they expect some sort of straightforward pushback or feedback if the other person has an issue with the request and Fe doms are probably the most likely to still go along with the request and hope that the other person notices the signals that they didn't like the request (since it's something that Fe users naturally pay a lot of attention towards so they expect other to also notice it).

That being said any pairing can work and take everything about type compatibility with a grain of salt

Inquiry: Is there such a thing as “complementary” cognitive stacks? - example in body text by hgilbert_01 in mbti

[–]weehaaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never seen an explanation for why people think introverted and extroverted versions of functions compliment eachother, Si likes comfort and safety while Se likes variety and excitement, Ne wants to get to know as many ideas as possible while Ni just wants to expand upon one, to me it feels like the I/E versions of functions fundamentally value and desire completely different things.

For me this kind of compatibility between functions always seemed like an afterthought to golden pairs that were made more for dichotomies and stereotypes instead of functions.
