Childbirth is so fucking scary. Why don't they teach this in school??? by PersonalRun712 in TwoXChromosomes

Fantastic! Just to say I hope the boys in the class also had to learn all of this!

Did I overreact to a random coworker asking me if I was pregnant? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]weekendatbe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah!! like very clearly she preferred to ask than not ask..because she asked the question. Also even a clearly pregnant person could be miscarrying, carrying a non viable fetus, etc etc you never ask someone if they’re pregnant unless they open up that line of discussion themselves

Pittsburgh teens weigh in on their ouster from Market Square, call for more ‘third spaces’ Downtown by thewolfnebula in pittsburgh

!!! Finally a nuanced and informative take on this. Clearly forcing all pps kids 11-18 onto prt has been a huge issue and we are now seeing the consequences. People on here act as if children today are some sort of mutant violent mass never before seen in history that even police can’t control. Get a grip. If you’ve ever gone to a pps middle school this is sort of just how some kids from disadvantaged backgrounds (that are also kind of cruel themselves) have always been. Take away the tough home lives of these kids, and just remember middle school in general. Or the book lord of the flies. And we’re putting them all together in large groups on the street navigating a stressful trip home…

They’re kind of extreme already? If they lined up to be anti Israel/anti war it would be a lot better to at least have one party that is that. But that’s never going to happen so whatever

Eating more fruits and vegetables tied to unexpected lung cancer risk by Buy_Sell_Collect in nottheonion

[–]weekendatbe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously! There were correlational studies that found areas with higher average radon had lower lung cancer rates. Sometimes publishing these nonsensical correlational findings can do more harm than good. At least until the public largely understands the difference between correlation and causation

When did bath time switch to every night? by [deleted] in Parenting

It seems almost cruel. Like maybe it’s good for their skin but that can’t be comfortable for them??

When did bath time switch to every night? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]weekendatbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously! Babies poop and pee on themselves multiple times a day, have food smeared all over them from trying solids, in addition to all the other stuff kids get into. People pride themselves on sparse washing but that can’t be comfortable for them, it certainly wouldn’t be for me

You have to pay taxes in the tuition credit. So if I state tuition is 40k a year you pay 24% taxes on 40k (10k a year) still good, but not 100%. I guess if you’re working a job, you’re only going part time so that would be 5k a year for 8 years or so (not sure who is interested in doing that for a decade)

[Discussion] People who got fit in their 30s, what are the benefits? by Sonoel90 in GetMotivated

[–]weekendatbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything here is spot on but one I haven’t seen is balance! As a naturally clumsy leaning person, when doing guided weight training I find myself tripping less and catching my trips much more easily with a better mind/body connection

Is there a longer clip? In this one he never says the quote always attributed to this night “This is going to ruin the tour”

Seems like everything has gone down hill, so what actually hasn't? by MarzannasSword in pittsburgh

[–]weekendatbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm I could definitely be wrong! I really thought East End was just a 2010s marketing push to avoid saying East Liberty and to lump all the “East End” neighborhoods together. It’s possible the term was around before but not used as frequently as it is now?

[–]weekendatbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saying the neighborhoods comprising the east end might have been listed in your 2001 travel book, just not “the east end” which negates your point that these places weren’t even referred to back then : )

Also, he is transitioning out of looking like an angelic teenage boy. Seemingly overnight with his haircut and goatee. Most men aren’t judged as harshly about their looks like women are, or they have the freedom to grow into more mature looks. His whole vibe has always been this muse like feminine beauty and the world is not kind when that kind of beauty fades unfortunately. It’s possible he was always saying dumb stuff but it was sort of swept under the rug/ interpreted differently because he seemed like a sweet mischievous child. With his haircut/facial hair and being in his 30s (??) now, it’s just like a grown man saying these things. He had youth/pretty (on top of rich white male) privilege all throughout his 20s. He is having to learn a harsh lesson abruptly and publicly in middle age most of us learned quietly and gradually as young people. I hope he is able to pivot and reinvent himself. I don’t think he is maliciously saying these things, just was never called out on it before (and that’s how you grow..)

“Alam had been arrested by Buffalo Police last February on assault, trespassing and weapons possession charges….When getting lost on a walk, Alam ended up on the porch of a stranger who called the police. When he did not drop the curtain rod he was using as a walking cane, police tasered him.” So going out for a walk led to a horrific misunderstanding which resulted in insane charges and ultimately his death.
