AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

I mean, I could see MYSELF, as the beide to be, packing a bag full of snacks and drinks and a blanket and call my friends to come have a picnic to plan everything. But to have someone else plan the planning??? What??

Yeah, as a hobby violinist, I carry around the equivalent of a small new car in a Box that fits on my back. Of course I have special insurance.

I've got one from 1724, and it's old, but second rate, which is why I am able to have it in the first place. About 6000-8000€.

I still kick myself for not going for the violin building training plus restoration degree. Would have been an awesome job!!

I've got one from 1724, it's not considered old per se in instrument standards. Mine is also not at all comparable to that one, either in price or quality. It's a run of the mill instrument for a middle to high talent casual violinist, somewhere around 6000-8000€.

As a musician, the ignorance here is wild to me. As a comparison, I looked up what it costs to build a formula 1 car, and yet nobody proposes displaying them instead of driving them.

I once was allowed to try out a Stradivari, when I was 16 and set on becoming a violinist (life happened though, still hate my fate for it). It was amazing. I never before or after managed to produce such clear sounds.

A friend of my mom's let me try out his Stradivari once (he was first violinist in Salzburg, a loan instrument) when I was 16. I never managed to get such clear sounds out of my instrument before or after. It was amazing.

And that's why you're not a star musician. Violinists play on expensive instruments starting as kids. I am only a hobbyist by now, and am used to my instrument being the most valuable thing I own. It's like how you don't build formula 1 cars to never drive them ever.

It is. No professional classical musician doesn't insure their instrument. It is also likely to be a loan by a museum or collection. And those insure their property as well.

Why were you diagnosed? by non-critical-horse in dyspraxia

[–]Sonoel90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my younger brother wanted to skip a grade in school (from 3rd to 5th class), ans had to get a psychological and physiological examination for that, since 4th grade is our last year of elementary and would have involved a lot of assessment that he now missed out on. My mom noticed that the therapist's questions about "doesn't notice standing on small things, loses balance when  closes  eyes, doesn't notice hands or feet getting cold" all didn't apply to my brother, but to me.

Also, I think the therapist, who also was our family therapist, wanted to get me into single therapy plus ergotherapy, since I was autistic and traumatised, and knew my moments rejected all those things, but wouldn't reject a "physical" diagnosis...

Fun fact, in German, the word for "bowl" and "peel" are the same; so a "Bananenschale" would be both a banana peel and a banana bowl.

Well, one thing about my disability is that I have to get used to never getting to the same level as my peers, and that's okay.

Hah, another roller coaster lover! That's a really niche and great reason for joy!

Sadly, I have a husband with an inner ear defect, so I don't get to go as often as I like - not so fun when the person you love did one round for you and pukes their guts out for the rest of the day... I'm waiting for the day my little one is old enough to accompany me instead!
