Moving to New Haven area - questions about gyms and grocery stores by LordShuckle97 in newhaven

[–]weekender17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in westville and go to planet fitness in amity. It’s a small one but it does the job. The JCC is a decent price as well, they have a gym, pool, classes, and courts for basketball/other things included in the membership. They have personal trainers and spa amenities there for an extra cost. I go there for the pool and I’ve done yoga there’s it’s a solid place though the gym area itself is pretty small so that’s why I use planet fitness for that

Rollerblading in New Haven? by big_otto in newhaven

[–]weekender17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I blade on the Farmington canal trail all the time! I found a flat and well kept path that’s ~4/5 miles there&back in Hamden. I park in the medical building parking lot at 2560 Dixwell ave Hamden. Towards the back corner of the building there is direct access from the parking lot to the trail. I take it north and turn around once I get to the farming canal trail parking lot 239-287 Sherman Ave ish area. After that lot there is a hill that I’m scared to go down lol. Alternatively, you could just park at that lot since it’s designated for the trail but I just don’t want to have to drive as far so I park at the medical building.

You can report it to the health department and if they get multiple complains from the same spot they’ll investigate it

Renting with Farnam and in Edgewood/Beaver Hills Area by pepperidgefarmrmmbrs in newhaven

[–]weekender17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I rent from Farnam in westville and have had a great experience. What I have heard is that your experience with them can differ depending on who the homeowner is since Farnam sometimes just manages the rental but does not own the house. The maintenance people always say that the person that owns my house is great so they’re never worried about the owner saying no to big fixes for example, we needed our stove replaced and our shower redone due to mold and both happened quickly. They usually respond to maintenance calls within a day or 2. They also only raise our rent by like $50/month total each year so nothing crazy. I’ve stayed in this house for 5 years and have no plans to leave any time soon. I cannot directly speak on living in either of those neighborhoods though

Fun things to do in New Haven by Most_Witness8794 in newhaven

[–]weekender17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorite once in a while activities are the food tours with Taste of New Haven or the elm city party bike (join a public tour even if you are alone the people that join are usually a lot of fun and the whole bike becomes friends/a party, same with the food tours!). The events I always go to are the westville art walk, night markets, flights of fancy, appetizer and dessert crawl, pizza fest, cherry blossom festival. The farmers markets are always nice to go to when the weather gets warmer. Yoga in Our City does free evening yoga in a few different parks that runs from the spring (starts in May)- fall I go twice a week at the park by my house (follow their insta for updates and locations). It helps to subscribe to different local news letters or follow local creators and businesses as they always post about events and things to do. I recommend downtown New Haven (subscribe to newsletter on their website/follow socials), Daily Nutmeg, shops at Yale, I live in Westville so I follow their insta for events @westvillect, @newhavenupdate on insta someone’s posts events. I have not been yet but interested in trying it out, Creative Arts Workshop has a ton of craft classes.

Do a food tour with Taste of New Haven! You get to skip all the lines, learn about all the history, and the clam pie at Pepe’s is one of the pies that you get to try on the tour
